Knocking out the Diaz brothers with punches is nearly impossible, I don't believe either of them have ever been finished standing from a punch.

Reason being is these guys are very crafty and its difficult to hit them cleanly on the chin, they roll very well with punches and have excellent defense an use their shoulders and arms to deflect shots. They have excellent recovery and awareness, and are very tough and have great cardio.

Conor thought he was getting to Diaz and he was about to KO him, he bought the fools gold and gassed himself out trying to get a finish by throwing power shots. The way to beat the Diaz's is with wrestling and top control, both things conor does not have.

The next best way is by pacing yourself and using a variety of strikes and low kicks and outpointing them for a decision or possible late finish if enough damage can be accumulated. Conor played right into Diaz's style and strengths and used a horrible strategy.

Never try to force a KO on the Diaz brothers standing via punches.

watching the fight, it did look like mcgregor was loading up too much with the left hand, diving in with it. he is usually a bit more measured.

like many diaz opponents, i think he felt he could hit him at will and not get much return fire. but many other fighters have failed due to that same mistaken expectation.

Diaz boxing was simply better than Conor.

While Conor was just whiffing bombs with his left and the poorly attempted uppercuts.

Diaz was simply just picking him apart in the 2nd rounds which turned Conor into a panic wrestler which got him mounted subbed when he gave up the back like a frontrunner.

His mistake is that he's not fighting 145lb guys that he outweights by 20lbs or so by fight night.

He fought someone his own size, who pushed back and folded when it got hard.

He blew his wad. He let the hype get into his head like Ronda and tried to look for the KO, then got desperate as soon as he got tagged.

Yeah he wasn't used to the distance so I think he felt he had to commit more to his shots and he was noticeably loading up. To be fair he was landing good shots on Diaz but I think he was expecting him to go down... But Diaz's chin ain't goin out to no midget.

Jeremy Jackson begs to differ...he KOed Nick stiff

Benson Henderson and Josh Thompson both destroyed Nate Diaz striking. Nate even said he was just hoping he didn't get finished against Bendo. It is not impossible to KO Nate or TKO him.

Should have used more kicks. Said this all along.

Sure the size thing is a factor, McG is a huge 145er, but you can't deny that he looked like the superior fighter for a good portion of that fight. He can defintiely beat Diaz if he had a better gamepan. Although I do partially agree that Conor had problems with the length and height of Diaz.

Diaz is a 155er btw, the fight was at 170 so both guys didn't have to cut weight.

Conor was blasting Nate, anyone who says Nate was outstriking him is probably retarded. Diaz at is harder to KO because Conor is overextending and isnt connecting at an optimal point of impact. Conor threw to too much got more tired than he should have and got clipped. Grats to Nate, bigger upset then when his big bro beat Takanori Gomi.

He should have made girly sounds when he threw those punches

Nate is definitely hittable, but you gotta threaten him with kicks, wrestling and a whole lot of movement

I don't think straight up boxing with Diaz would end up well for anyone

I do believe that is called Panic Wrestling

Ala Anderson vs. Nick..

Conor went for that uppercut a few times too many. And he looked a bit sloppy with the big left

True but the Thompson strike was a headkick that landed cleanly, no fighter can withstand a full on headkick if it lands clean, not even the Diaz brothers. Also it was more unexpected, Thompson was not pushing for the KO like Conor was, Conor was being way to predictable for a smart fighter like Diaz.

Benson won by decision btw.

Should still be noted that hes never been KOd though. Nate Diaz is very hard to finish.

He was far too reliant on the straight -> uppercut combo and the spinning wheel kick (which he never landed or even came close to landing, really). He hit Nate with some good shots in the first, including a really nice left hook to the body, but Nate got wise to the straight/uppercut combo after the first couple of times and Conor started hitting arms. Nate made the adjustment and started busting Conor up, then of course we all know what happened from there. I honestly thought it was a great fight, though. Seriously one of the most exciting I've seen in a while. I already liked Nate but between this fight and the Johnson fight, he's really impressed me.
