Conor McGregor 'won't return to the UFC until April' at the earliest says John Kavanagh

Alright. Aldo never beat a UFC champ to become FW champ. Mendes was never FW champ. Conor = paper champ x2 at FW.

Jens Pulver and Sean Sherk were both stripped as LW champs. Conor = paper champ at LW.

Right?

Well, aldo beat mike brown to win the wec title...and that was the premier orginization at the time for lower weight classes...and the ufc didn't have lower weight classes back then...and ufc just bought the wec...so, there you go...aldo is the champion...I can understand that.

or did the ufc own them all along? I forget.

Ufc knows they can’t control Greg. UFC “pulling” him from 219 is all talk, cheap talk.

It came down to business and what Greg was asking for. He wants a piece of the pie. UFC doesn’t want to give him that. They are at odds

UFC pretending like they can still control Greg is laughable.
Greg???

Foook this guy.

He's done... he's not a fighter anymore, whenever he does come back he's going to get the brakes beat off him.

Career is over.

Wish this guy would go away. Go to boxing, go be a professional Tweeter like Trump, do something else. I want to see a UFC fighter hold that UFC title...

Interim-champ Ferguson just dropped a 120,000 buy PPV. Conor's last 3 in the UFC 1.4 million, 1.6 million, 1.4 million. Ok.....

What's your point? Do you really believe they lost money year after year until Conor came around? Perhaps it's you that should avoid getting into business. The UFC can absolutely cut Conor and still make money.

Conor McGregor will not return to the UFC until April at the earliest, according to reports.

The Notorious had been linked with a bout before 2018, but it now appears that will not happen.

McGregor's coach John Kavanagh is quoting as saying the Dubliner won't fight again until "until April or mid next year".

MMA journalist Farah Hannoun tweeted: "Just saw John Kavanagh who was very surprised by the Woodley vs. Diaz rumours.

"Says Conor probably won't return until April or mid next year. Still have to go through negotiations with the #UFC to place deal for next fight."

Thoughts, questions, comments, or concerns?
CONOR should really just take a trip to Fuckoffville and stay there.

They should have doubled down on not letting him fight Floyd. He made too much, and now wants the sun, moon and stars to keep going in the UFC. I still don't know why they allowed him to box Floyd? He was under UFC banner. They did not have to. They simply could have made it clear you are free to box when your deal with us is over..

Oh believe me, the UFC will be just fine without him. At this point he’s just fucking worthless and should be cut.

Make money sure. However he would sign with Bellator and put them on the map with massive sales.. They can't cut him..

LOL!!

Thank god you don't make decisions for the UFC.. Cut the biggest asset in the company and hand him over to a rival.. Yep..

Inb4, in April next year: he's not fighting before the end of the year.

He's still under a UFC contract, so he can't just sign with Bellator. They don't have to cut him... they can just strip him ( and he'll still have 4 fights on his existing contract), and simply not give him any fights until he pulls his head out of his ass. They don't HAVE to renegotiate with him if he's already bound by a contract, the just have to meet the current terms (whatever they may be). Hell, the UFC could just put together a fight with Tony, put it on the main card but not as a main or co-main events so they don't have to pay out on the PPV points.

If Conor really tries to play hard ball, he'll lose. If Conor tries to fight elsewhere, the UFC will drain his back account in litigation quick enough. Conor might hold an advantage the court of social media (because there's just no accounting for stupidity), but I guarantee the UFC would hold an advantage in a court of law.

Stop you right there, because that would be illegal and he would be free of his contract anyway. If he is ready to fight he must be offered a fight in a certain time frame or his deal is void. No court would side with the UFC on that one. He is not a slave..

They are going to have to meet his terms one way or another. He is too valuable to let go, and they can't sit on his deal and not offer any fights. Legally he has a right to earn a living, and if the UFC has no intention of offering any fights just to fuck with him, he will win his freedom easily in court. They can't just not allow him to earn a living.. It would only drag out if the UFC offers fights and he just won't accept them..

It's shit from a fans perspective, but Conor is doing the most to capitalise on his current position, he'll most likely never have more leverage than he has right now, considering the UFC's lack of options when it comes to big money makers and the sizeable debt that is weighing the UFC down.

He has fuck you money and could walk away now as an MMA great (deal with it) if he wants to, his legacy is secure.

This will most likely be his last big contract, I see him fighting a maximum of 4-6 more times in his career and he's trying to get a piece of the company he helped build more than any other fighter, and honestly, considering how much of the UFC's revenue in the last few and next few years is tied up in his fights he has every right to seek that.

No, it's not illegal. If they offer Conor terms that are within the guidelines of the contract and Conor refuses to honor them, that doesn't make the contract null and void. Conor agreed to terms by signing the contract in the first place. Conor can fight out his contract and explore free agency (after the matching period has expired), or he can take his chances and fight it in court. He'll lose if he does.

If Conor decides that a year and half is appropriate and acceptable between fights, the UFC can take their time putting together prospective fights. How has legal action worked out for any other fighter so far against the UFC (as it relates to contracts)?

That is correct but they have to keep offering fights. All they can do is make offers and if he refuses the offers, then the UFC is in the right. But they can't sit on his deal and make no offers to him for a fight. At the end of the day they will pay him what he wants..
