Conor McGregor vs Charles Oliveira

Oliveira fires wrecklessly, and you guys think Mcgregor isn't going to KO him? Don't get me wrong, Oliveira is a super exciting prospect but striking is not his strongest area yet he's very confident in it. That to me spells trouble against a strong counter puncher in Mcgregor. That being said, Oliveira is super crafty and he can submit anyone if he manages to tangle them up. Good scrap but I've gotta go with Conor by T(KO).

Why not? What has he shown that makes you think he can't hang with Oliviera or those other two? It's not like any of those three are crazy good wrestlers and anyone who actually knows what the hell they're seeing can tell Conor's a very talented striker. I don't see why he couldn't beat all three of them.

Mcgregor beating Cowboy? I mean its possible, just like scratching a bobcat on the ass and not getting bit is possible.

What I am trying to say is that looking good striking against Brimage and less good against Holloway does not equate to beating some of the best strikers in the world.

At this point, there is no reason in a million years to think he could beat Cowboy, and most would pick Swanson over him as well.

Im not saying hes a can or anything, Im just saying put things in perspective. He has two wins, one finish, over two guys who are nowhere near top tier material.

I'll be happy if conor turns out to be half as good as some of the posters on here think he will be.

such an easy fight for oliveira. sub in less then 20 seconds, just like conor was subbed by two no name irish fighters in 30 seconds each time

I seen this posted many times, just 2 things though.
Does Artemij Sitenkov strike you as an Irish name ?
Joseph Duffy is not a no name fighter, I expect him to be in the UFC soon.

This thread will be bumped one day when Connor wears the belt.

High five future BruceLeeOnTRT.

aloe vera at least a 2-1 favorite in my book, probably more.

Cowboy is definitely not one of the best strikers in the division. He throws with bad intention and does knock guys out but his real strength is in his submissions. Swanson would be a MUCH tougher fight for Conor than Cowboy.

I think we're just looking at it from two different perspectives. You're seeing him as not being proven because all he's beaten is Brimage and Holloway, and that point does make sense...but I see him as a top talent because of how he's beaten them and the skills he's shown in beating all of his opponents until now. He's got fast hands, power, very good footwork that sets up opportunities to strike at strange angles, and at the very least his ground game is passable. He's also shown to have heart and adaptability, he hurt himself in his last fight and changed up the gameplan to secure a win using what he's weakest at (grappling). Add that to the fact that he has a tremendous belief in himself and he's a dangerous cat. Cowboy has always been inconsistent, but when he's on he's definitely on, not to mention he's significantly bigger and longer than Conor. I'm not saying he would for sure beat Cowboy or Swanson, but I think his skills have progressed to the point that (despite his competition to this point) he could be a top contender very soon.

I think as a rule you shouldn't believe the hype on fantastic strikers until they fight a decent wrestler, but if I had to guess I would say within a few years Conor's going to fight for the belt.

An Irish potato lying on the ground wondering what the hell just happened and why am I so out of breath?

Cowboy is one of the best strikers at LW. At featherweight, only Swanson and Aldo would rival his striking. You could argue Aldo has never even fought a guy with striking as good as Cowboys'. His submissions are almost always a result of his striking. Whether he hurts a guy and subs him, or he is getting the better of a guy and he gets taken down.

See I like Swanson and I agree he is very gifted. But Cowboy is more technical in my book. Want a perfect example? Watch Stephens vs Cowboy, then watch Stephens vs Swanson. Swanson's style (hands down, wreckless) left him open several times and he did get tagged. Cowboy treated Stephens like someone who didnt deserve to be in there with him and never got hit clean the entire fight. Truly, that fight looks like a bar fighter versus a pro kick-boxer as Stephens was lost.

I agree with everything you said.
and to supplement this I would say you also shouldn't believe the hype until they fight a great striker as well. Brimage and Holloway are good but they are not the strikers like Stephens, Swanson, Mendes, or even guys like Poirer.

If McGregor fought Poirier or Swanson that would be beautiful! I think Swanson's wacky style would make for such an exciting fight and Dustin Poirier is a crazy person. Any of those four fights would be beautiful and would really either validate McGregor as contender or derail his hype train. If I could choose, I would really like to see how Swanson vs. McGregor would play out. Swanson will definitely test McGregor's chin, which I think right now is definitely an unknown.

One Irish fighter, one Lithuanian fighter.

I really think people will be surprised by Conor's jits. I highly doubt that the two submission losses at the start of his career tell us anything about his current ability.

i like this matchup. i can see both winning, but bronx looks way more well rounded

I've cited this fight a few times for this specific reason you gave at the end. Cowboy has only lost to ex champs and 1 number 1 contender and a guy within top 5. Cowboys striking is very good and is one of the best in the division, when you think in terms of power, technique, combinations, and versatility of strikes, I don't know how people can deny him of this.
