Depends what you mean by "influence on MMA". Fedor had bigger influence on fighters, hardcore fans (mma world), many looked up to him and considered him the best - but Conor had stronger influence on general public mma, casuals...etc. Marketing wise, Conor made MMA much more known.

I guess I mean overall. Say 25-30 years from now, who will be remembered as someone who impacted MMA as a whole more?

McGregor of course.

Masses of filthy casuals started watching MMA because of him. Where I'm at (central Europe) young people only started following MMA after Mcgregor rose to fame, before that it was considered some underground American barbaric ''sport''.

Oranizations like OKTAGON MMA wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for McGregor. Hell, half of their roster only started training because they idolized him.

Conor, but in a bad way.

Conor made chasing money fights become an acceptable reason for ducking, popularized the WWE promo-style, brought UFC to the masses of casuals and overall had more long term (albeit negative) impact on the sport.

Unfortunately, nobody but the most hardcore of fans will remember Fedor in a few decades time. But Conor will be immortalised as the coke-sniffing, piss-whisky brewing, old-man punching asshole that happened to be the first champ-champ in UFC.

Fedor influenced Abdulmanap directly and even faced off against him in Sambo. Fedor honored him after his passing too

Abdulmanap said his influence on Russian MMA is unparalleled and we saw Abdulmanap students and son Khabib was a product of Fedor influence and then the international talent Khabib influenced as a result

The sambo and Russian influence Fedor brought alone is staggering and his influence on Khabib and his dad alone and what that brought after makes this a non debate. There would be no Khabib, Islam or maybe even Abdulmanap teaching as a whole and regions he built up. Then fighters in Europe following that too without Fedor. Khamzat was inspired to fight after watching Fedor get Randleplexd then sun him. Fedor and Mirko are Shavkat favorite fighters.

Conor influenced a bunch of casuals and geeks, nobodies that don't even train and put more eyes on MMA from other sports and people. He's mainly influenced weak talent in Ireland and fighters being more flamboyant out of the cage. And he helped raise pay for fighters in UFC. That's it really

If you're talking about the influence they had on next generation of fighters especially the ELITE talents it's Fedor by galaxies.

Fedor - iconic legend of the sport who went unbeaten in like 10 years, 30 fights in toughest division. One of the nicest guys, and greatest ambassador of the sport. On most people's Mount Rushmores of MMA, and universally regarded as a top 4 goat. Millions of fans in Russia. A true class act.

Conor - bashes old men in pubs. Sexually assaulted 4 women. Stripped of 2 belts for inactivity, throws dollies at buses, smashes phones, punches Italian dj's, throws women off yachts, shoves Bellator referees, humiliated in the biggest MMA and boxing matches of his career, turned the UFC into a circus where fighters talk trash and demand big money fights that mean little, disrespects every single opponent he faces. A disgrace to Irish people

Conor is more popular, made more money and brought more casual eyes to the sport, but his impact has been mostly negative. I am voting for Fedor

Damn that’s sick. Fedor truly is your favorite fighters, favorite fighter. Conor is your favorite drunk coworkers, favorite fighter

Great post and very well said. Totally agree.

More impactful/bigger influence on Mixed Martial Arts: Fedor Emelianenko

More impactful/bigger influence on MMA Entertainment Business: Conor McGregor
(That's my honest observation and I've been a Conor hater since the Mendes set up)
