Media Conor McGregor Kick Volume vs Poirier - Career Comparison

Great thread.

His kicks always kept the opponent at bay, preventing a brawl.

McGregor wins by counter punches and precision shots.

He lost to Porrier because the fight became a brawl, which is Porrier's strength.

Not all kicks require the same amount of energy. He threw a lot of flashy kicks that didn't land or were barely effective vs Nate 1 and he gassed out. In the rematch he primarily threw leg kicks and still gassed.

He couldn’t even knock out an old man in a bar with the “left hand of doom”

What was the ratio for Mcgregor Poirier 1?

I just watched it quickly and it looks around
20 punches
8 kicks

So in 90 seconds of the first fight he threw more kicks than he did in 8 minutes of the 2nd fight

Dustin also took him down and didn't gas like Mendes

Ironically the commentary team said that the wrestling wore Dustin down more than it wore Conor down

conor was never a heavy kicker, it was all to control distance and setup his hands. Now that hes fell in love with his hands, he gets pressured and no longer has control of fights anymore. he had some of the nicest teeps when he threw them right up the center and could back a guy off. Sadly you dont see that anymore, the speed, precision is all lost because of the stardom with his left hand power... he still has that but he doesnt have all the other parts that made that left so lethal.

Yeah he never really threw them at full force earlier on. He'd do a lot of teeps to the knees and spinning back kicks. A lot of them missed but it would distract from the left hand.

For Conor to be effective he needs to be quick on his feet and use his teep kick / leg kicks + his boxing obviously. High kicks don't work as much on same stance fighters unless they use their lead leg

I only used fights that went over 2 rounds because that's how long the Poirier rematch was. Also I might have missed a few punches here and there

-Threw a lot more kicks as a featherweight
-Started becoming a lot more boxing / punch orientated after the Aldo win, not the 1st Diaz fight like many believe
- When standing for at least 8 minutes, he threw the least amount of kicks against Poirier in the rematch (highest ratio)

he was best at fw. Almost like a different person sometimes now

Conor used kicks primarily to mask his left hand kill shot.
exactly and his spinning back kick he used when his opponent circled of the fence played an important role in his forward pressure .

His striking was most effective when he was unpredictable.
dustin did say in the first fight they really didnt know who he was
but the sceond fight mike brown and him developed a game plan
not to say conor is shit but there is more information on how he fights now thus being more predictable

The versatility at FW Conor had pretty much makes Conor of today more one dimensional. While a Conor stinky is more efficient the output he had vs Max was pretty crazy and the Conor of today with the same output will lose energy.

I don’t know what could’ve changed but he does put more force into his shots where as before he would throw shots to bait people to where he wanted them then throw a kill shot where as now he clearly throw his shots with more force. In the Dustin rematch he was throwing hard but sadly didn’t go for it when he had Dustin hurt.

Give him some EPO and he should look better
