So i guess he will be happy getting the same money as Demetrius Johnson then??

That is the main reason he gets paid as much as he gets paid, because he promotes his fights and himself to the moon and back, i mean, thats a huge part of his job and that is what got him to his pay level, the promotion that he does, there are other champions who have defended their belts, who are constantly wining fights, because lets face it, he just won the belt, not defended it, and lost to a 10 days notice replacement guy.

Thoughts?

Well, his fights are much more exciting than DJs.
It isn't all promotion. The fights speak very loudly.

If he was paid to fight, then he'd be making Rockhold money.

If he wasn't getting PPV points he would be telling the truth.

The 'C' in UFC stands for Conor.

He gets these special perks because its the McGregor show and there's nothing you can do about it.

Are you retarded? McGregor wants OUT of the McGregor show...

Maybe you're right, though. There's nothing that he can do about it.

That was the extreme example, pick whatever champion you like then, it seems none are getting paid what Conor is/was.

True.
But promotion and the fight go pretty much hand in hand.
I mean, you could give Rosholt the charisma of Charles Manson and people would not tune in.

Lol'ed. You and Charles Manson, man.

I remember when some drivers had to learn it the hard way in Formula One racing that promotion is a huge part of the business. They said 'I get paid to drive, not to do stupid commercials' too. Until the slow realization started to sink in and henceforth nobody uttered those idiotic words ever again.

He is paid to promote. Media obligations are in his contract, the contract that he signs to get paid. What a fucking idiot...

marshawn lynch did the same thing, the nfl fined him an ass load of money each time he didn't feel like following through with the contractual obligation of promoting the brand and doing interviews.

Mayweather never ever bitched about the promo stuff

Mayweather was king, when it came to all that

McGregor doesn't need press conferences when he can shut down the MMA community with one tweet. :D

That's not what Conor fans used to say about great fighters with a boring personality like Aldo and Lawler. They used to take pride in the fact that their idol could handle both.

alot of these fighters dont realize. It is not just about fighting. Marketing and promoting is a big part of the fight game. If he wants to make chum change like Jose Aldo, then dont promote. In the WWE, if you cant cut a promo, youll be gone so fast. Same goes with UFC

He did say the right things and the UFC machine got behind him at full blast.
That definitely helped. But had he been a blanket, I have doubts that he would have been that big.
Seemed to work with GSP, though. But that was probably because the UFC was really pushing to get big in Canada, I guess.
