I belive he got up 3 times and stuffed a few tds in the 3rd aswell
I gave him credit then and I'll give him credit now.
I also give him credit for mentally leading Khabib during that fight. He fooled Khabib into choking him out. Khabib went in there to rearrange his face permanently, as he had claimed he would do.
And he could have done it. But Conor was a masterful mental player. He squirmed to escape and then slickly gave up his neck when he was done with the contest. IF Khabib had been calm enough to remember his stakes he would have detected "Oh - you're done done??" and taken his time destroying Conor's face slowly enough to not have the fight stopped before major damage was inflicted.
But Conor led him. Gave him the neck and played a trick on all the years of Khabib's training, relying on his automatic reaction to go for the choke. And got out without a scratch!
Genius play by Conor, to my mind. It was the one truly brilliant thing he did in that fight - end it 100% on his own terms. "Ok, you win, you win. Forget destroying my face, buddy, just choke me out"
By the time Khabib realized what had transpired he was overflowing with rage and regret, lol. Had to jump out the cage to take it out on Dillon Danis. If he had taken a round or two to batter Conor beyond recognition like he originally went in there to do, he would have simply laughed Dillon off. But he had been fooled and Conor stole his prize. Khabib had to leave with only the victory, the finish, and the belt.
If he'd have remembered to disfigure Conor, he probably would have buried the hatchet with him and they'd have a friendly enough rivalry today. But he lost his chance to get his frustrations out so they live with him forever as it relates to Conor.
