Media Conor McGregor back boxing on pads after injury

All of his bulking has sapped him of his speed and reflexes - which were his biggest strengths. It also increases the chances that he gasses in fights. Putting on so much muscle was a puzzling decision for a fighter with his skillset. Opponents now see his punches coming from a mile away. Sure, he might have more power, but his ability to land punches people didn't see coming was his best attribute in his hey day.

anyone who says UFC 205 conor wasn’t something stupidly special needs help.

i dont know why he’s been changing up his whole style, like i said is his next fight just gonna be him coming in like fuckin lineker, like hes doing on the pads? dont like this lmao.
I’ve no idea. I did some pad work and tried just kind of imitating his old stance. And I get where the power came from. His stance made sense for his weapons and strengths. It fit him perfectly. By facing his opponent with his weak shoulder his strong arms all the way back..he generates more power from his dominant hand and it gives his lead jab some extra threat.

No idea why he got away from it. It was perfect.

I agree. Conor was something special. As far as raw striking talent I had him next to Anderson silva. Not the Muay Thai or BJJ, but for raw striking talent ufc 205 and earlier he was on a level I don’t think we ever really got a chance to fully understand. The guy was special.

I think the Aldo knockout was simultaneously the best and worst thing that ever happened to him

I know it's just pad work, but he has lost so much speed and fluidity over the years.

Chances? He was already prone to gassing out before, and now he has more or less confirmed he *will*.

He has always had a great deal of insecurity about his physical size and his "smallness" or "weed-iness".
He is fairly short and he used to look like this :

so for the last few years really he has been quite obviously bulking up. How interesting.

- I don't see him fighting again at 155lbs (except for ONE fight), -- that would be a struggle for him to get down to.
My prediction is the ONLY fight that he will get down to 155lbs fight-weight for is if the UFC grant him another undeserved title-fight vs OLIVEIRA in the event that Oliveira beats Gaethje in May.
Oliveira has said he will accept a fight vs McG.
Gaethje has said he absolutely will not accept a fight vs McG.

So if Oliveira WINS in May, the UFC might (sadly) offer McG a fight vs Oliveira for which he will obviously have to get down to 155lbs.
If Gaethje wins in May, I expect the UFC to do Nate Diaz vs McG in approx September at 170lbs.

he doesn't have that smooth flow anymore, that sort of karate stance he had bouncing back and forth use to make him elusive but he has been fighting flat footed for a good while now.

i know money changes personality but apparently it changes fighting style to

Karate footwork, counter box Conor was the best Conor. He regressed(almost all fights) after Diaz 1 to be honest. Constantly switching styles. For Diaz 1 he was winging powershots, Diaz 2 he was a kickboxer all of a sudden. He might have peaked for Alvarez though. Afterwards he came back for Poirier looking like a Boxer again and afterward he was trying to be a kickboxer again.

And his footwork was incredible. Light. Fast. Like he’d fly back 3 feet and it wouldn’t even seem like he was trying. His conditioning was outstanding. I don’t see that from him anymore
This. His left hand wasn't so successful because he has massive concussive power like a Dan Henderson right hand, but because of the accuracy, precision, and use of it within combos.

I watched the Mendes fight again the other day, and I was blown away by the grace of his movements, the fluidity of his striking, and sharpness of his combos. The last 40 seconds is a perfect example. Mendes showed time and time again in that fight that the left hand wasn't hurting him too bad. But once Conor mixed up his attacks, lead uppercuts, stabbing body kicks, straight lefts, lead hooks, etc, Mendes couldn't handle it and eventually succumbed.

Conor became obsessed with the idea of the one punch, that he completely forgot what set it up to begin with. He'll never win a fight against a ranked guy again at ANY weight by being a stiff, plodding boxer with meh power.

really hope he isn’t gonna turn into someone who just wings hooks like that.. he’s already digressed enough.

conor’s pad work/ bag work used to actually be super clean, fluid and fun to watch.
I feel like prime Conor(guessing his best LW version would be UFC 205 version) could be pretty competitive with some top tier lightweights today.
I would've love to have seen that version of Conor against someone like Fiziev.

His head looks so big here it’s crazy

Mendes clearly succumbed in that fight because of late replacement fatique.

Knowing Dana he would have a 155 championship bout at 170 just to appease his cash cow. Remember when he said that conor vs Cerrone was just 2 LW contenders fighting at 170? Never put anything past the pink goof.

Usman is next....
