Some guy was posting about how he still considers Jones and McGregor the champs, and as much as I dislike it, it's truth when you're speaking about the Lineal titles. In MMA this concept hasn't carried as much weight as in Boxing, but the idea of a Lineal Championship is that it can only be won by beating the Champion who had it before you. Conor won both the Featherweight and Lightweight Titles and never lost them. They were stripped, and he's no longer the divisional champion. But he is still a Two-Division Lineal Champion going into this match with Khabib.

Edit: Conor is the only person in UFC History to hold MMA Lineal Championships in two divisions simultaneously. Will have to check into Dan Henderson, pretty sure the Pride titles would have been considered the Lineal ones at the time.

Well, thats easy when you never defend

<seedat>

Jones doesn't apply to this logic due to cheating.....

But yeah it's true with Conor. That's largely why this Khabib fight is so big. It's a unification bout

The concept of losing the lineal belt through forfeiture exists. Ditto with retirement.

There is no hard and fast rule for when that applies, but it does exist.

Gsp is the lineal mw champ too but no one considers him the champ

Lineal world champions:

HW: DC
LHW: Jones
MW: GSP
WW: GSP
LW: Conor
FW: Conor

Irish Joe Duffy is undefeated against the lineal LW and FW champ <mma4>

Jon Jones is the true Lineal champion of 155;

Pulver wins first title and didn’t lose as champion. His next loss was to Ludwig who lost to BJ who then lost to Machida(that’s where it gets fucked up). Machida loses to Shogun and Jones beat Shogun. Jon Jones is lineal champ of two divisions separated by 50lbs.

the concept of lineal champion doesnt make sense. champion is not equal to being the best and title shots are rarely given to the best contender

Conor fucked off for 2 years, you can give him whatever imaginary belt you want but if he wants a real one he's going to have to win a fight.

GSP would be lineal WW and MW champ then.
There’s no would about it. By TS standards he is which makes him the lineal champ of dual weight divisions. They would also be simultaneously since he never stopped being the lineal ww champ/ never lost the title

It's almost impossible to lose when you choose not to defend. Is Tony Ferguson the lineal, interim lightweight Champion Of The World since he never lost his title?

Lineal titles only matter in boxing

They're fun to play around with but they don't really mean anything in MMA

<TrumpWrong1>Jens Pulver never lost the belt. So, Conor isn't lineal LW shit.
