Random fan: Machida wins fights by running away. I hate his elusive style.
Conor comes straight forward.
Rf: Oh my god, he pulled out of the fight again?!
Conor fought injured, no hesitation.
Rf: Man it would be cool if more people tested other weight classes.
Conor has shown ample interest.
Rf: MMA is slowly dying.
Now it's too popular with all these new Conor fans. gawdammmmit.
Rf: Fighters don't fight enough in a year.
Conor has fought 6 times in a year and a half. Impressive, having them all been main events.
Before you automatically flare your hater ego, just let it sink in a bit. Everything many of you have been complaining and wishing for in MMA has been vindicated. With bright stars like Conor, Ronda, and Holly, MMA has been getting the spotlight. More spotlight = more money for fighters/more fights for us to enjoy.
I'm sure some of you hate the boasting and shit talk, but then maybe the fight game isn't for you.
Let's remember Mohammed Ali used to bring loud speakers and belch insults at his opponents months before their fight. And if you take a look around, many more fighters are now being more vocal about their matchups. Regardless of whether you agree with it or not, it's doing more good than harm for our sport. No casual fan will start following MMA from watching a tame elite fighter i.e. most top 10 fighters in the world.
I know many of you have really sad lives, and love watching people who chase their dreams crash and burn... but at least keep it civil will ya? And if you wake up one day and realize how sad that mentality is, well then, conor bless.
