at the heart of many Greek tragedies is the lesson about avoiding hubris. The hero does great things, gets cocky, thinking he's greater than he is. That's hubris. The gods then smack the offender back down, often in an ironic or embarrassing way.
Conor started talking about being a god. He said he and Jesus were on good terms because "gods recognize gods." All the gods through mythology heard this, and were angered. Time for punishment.
