CLIFFS: the net cost would be about $99 billion PER YEAR

FAIR’s report says $113 billion represents the total cost at the federal, state and local levels for undocumented immigrants. The vast majority -- $84 billion -- is paid by state and local governments.
The $113 billion is not a net cost. Taking into consideration federal, state and local tax payments made by the undocumented population, the net cost would be about $99 billion, according to the FAIR report.

Kind of makes 18 billion you are crying about barely worth mentioning.

Ah yes, the power of empty promises to rubes and fools.

President Obama, for instance, has paid little political price for never making good on his 2008 campaign pledges to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp or call the Turkish slaughter of Armenians during World War I genocide. (Overall, Politifact says Obama has kept 45% of his campaign promises and broken 22%, with the rest somewhere in between.)

Yes, Trump is the first to not come through on campaign promises. Or are we just bitching about his?

$113 billion is not much at all if you amortize it across how long the wall is expected to stand up.

Unless you expect it to stand up for 1 year before getting taken down.

Who said he was the first?

I said "The power of empty promises to rubes and fools."

But since you mentioned something, I'll try to address it. Obama actually issued an executive order to have Guantanamo Bay closed. But the problem was that if they just shut it down, they would have had to transfer the detainees onto U.S. soil, which no one wanted to see happen. So, instead they worked towards reducing the prisoner population with the hope that once it got down to 0, they could close the prison without putting the detainees in the U.S. Obama inherited a prison with hundreds of detainees and managed to get it down to 40 by the time he left office.

So, while he never achieved his goal, he spent his entire 2 terms working on getting there.

OTOH, Trump has spent next to no time trying to get Mexico to pay for this wall before asking us to do it instead.

Empty promises to rubes and fools.

How does a wall affect visa overstays? You know, how the vast majority of illegal immigrants get here?

<{1-1}>

so it would cost us like 1% of our countries yearly income to make a permanent wall that will end illegal immigration, illegal human trafficking, and illegal drug importation?

clearly we cant afford it.

Donald makes the best deals

Not only would it do all that, but it would also increase the national IQ by 20 points!

(If we lined up all Trumpets along it and shot them. Don’t worry; Mexico will pay for the bullets.)

It wouldn't end any of those things.

It would just waste resources that could be better spent handling those problems more intelligently.

I'd rather the Coast Guard get more funding than the wall get built if you want to actually tackle those problems.

The Coast Guard already gathers more actionable intelligence in the Gulf and Pacific than they have resources to police. The majority of smuggling operations take place on the ocean, not over the southern border.

Yeaaaa. All you need to do that is a fucking wall.

If the wall ever does go up, every inch needs to be covered in orange, spray-painted dicks.

Do you... Do you really think that's what the wall will do?

Take a giant loan make the next few presidents take the heat.

I'll chip in a few tax payer dollars, gladly.

Dude, just shut up and Google "Trump on visa overstayers".

He is also trying to crackdown on them as well.
