Confidence = Good Chin?

Well, most fighters are confident. To be a top level fighter you've more than likely have to believe in yourself.

There are plenty of cocky guys who don't have great chins. Cloner is a great example of that.

Prime Andy's chin is fucking astonishingly good. Only Penn might have a chin to rival it.

If anyone ever questions if Andy is out of his prime, just watch his fight with Bisping. It's evident and obvious. His reflexes have slowed considerably, his counter striking isn't the same and that chin has been cracked.

I think its genetics, confidence, recovery , rolling with punches, and maybe head size(which is genetics) and neck, shoulder, back, strength? Leg strength?=sturdy base...

mostly though its just the way your brain reacts to the specific spot you were hit.. Some people take bombs that look like the hardest punch theyve ever taken and then get Koed with a soft shot right behind the ear or on the chin

That wasn't the usual H-Bomb. He was moving backward. He wasn't throwing that huge right off the inside leg kick which is the real H-Bomb. Don't get me wrong though, Silva had a great chin. I'm not shitting on that chin. it was legit.
 
Its where you take the shot also. Like clearly Porier has a decent chin. But he got clipped almost in the back of the head... Not quite the back but you see where. Anybody whos been hit there knows that feeling... You get rocked if you get hit there...

Mark Hunt in his Prime had the best Chin. Took a full on Cro Cop kick to the dome
 
I think Anderson is more of a case of great defense rather than a granite chin. That wasn't a real h bomb, and it didn't land clean. With Jorge Riveira he had him in the Thai clinch, not allowing him to put his body into it leaving him only with arm punches, having to punch over Anderson's arms, then he moves his head with the punches. He doesn't just stand there and eat power shots like Hunt would be able to.
