Comparision...UFC = WWF (old name)...Bellator = WCW

Ted Turner gave WCW an open checkbook to steal top names away from WWF.
Last I checked Conor, Ronda, Brock, GSP, etc are not in Bellator.

Also Viacom is not interested in going after UFC like Turner was interested in going after Vince.

Trust me they are. They did the same with TNA when they had them. One week paid millions for hulk and bischoff, and next week switched over to Monday nights to compete.... Only to go back to whatever day barely 2 months later

I wonder if people who compare UFC to WWE ever actually watched WWE

Low quality UFC skype conference call is 10x times more exciting than WWE's main event of the year.

Then you know something every MMA & TV analyst doesn't.
Coker himself said otherwise & that he is limited on who they could go after.
Also Viacom did not own TNA, that was Dixie Carter that put TNA in debt by thinking they could compete.

Its far far closer to compare WWE, WWF whatever to soap operas like days of our lives and late soap Dallas than it is to compare the UFC and Bellator to the fake wrestling stuff.

Anytime you script a year in advance and pay actors to play out scenes...it has nothing to do with a real sport.

WCW was my stuff man. Sting in the crow costume was awesome. I remember when he had to choose between the white and red NWO. Man...good times.

What are we talking about again?

Best memories of Wrestling ever, sitting at home watching WCW in its prime.... Wrestling will never be better than NWO, NWO Wolf Pack, Hollywood Hogan days.. NEVER.

When you look at how thin the WW division is of the UFC you can see the Bellator WW division close. Bellator just needs to sign the UFC's top talent the next 2-3 years and they'll be right up there.

It's a pretty good analogy, things are only a little different(worked vs shoot product, which is actually a really fine line, to me MMA is merely pro wrestling for grown ups) but I mean for the most part Bellator with Coker is pretty much following what WCW did in 94-96, the big glaring difference is that Coker/Bellator hasn't been able to get that Hogan/Savage type of signing. The thing that most hardcore MMA fans don't realize is how casual bystander fans think about MMA, they see MMA on Spike TV and it doesn't even register with them that it's NOT a UFC show. This was the case for WCW, they signed Hogan, Savage, Mene Gene, dozens of other shitty WWF guys that were way past their prime, but casual wrestling fans in the 90's seen that shit while channel surfing and before you knew it WCW was squashing WWF in the ratings. It's a pretty clear blue print to success, the problem is that UFC learned from WWF's mistakes and locked down all their Randy Savages and Hulk Hogans just to keep them from legitimizing their competitors.

Even though they are old and way past it and hardcore MMA fans would shit all over it and roll their eyes at it, if Bellator would sign Chuck, Hughes, Forrest, Mike Goldberg, etc it would actually go a long way to legitimize their brand, they could build off of that with new homegrown stars the way WCW did(DDP, Goldberg, etc). There is a reason why Tito and Shamrock and Kimbo drew their biggest ratings, a lot of people who tuned into those fights didn't know the difference between UFC and Bellator, they just know cage fighting on Spike TV. Hell my dad still asks me if Chuck Liddell is the champion anymore. Nah pops, Chuck fell off the wagon years ago.

You know WCW was raping WWF in the ratings and such for years, right? WWF used to be 2nd place for a good while, and WCW was the top dog. I don't think a lot of people actually know that.

UFC is like attitude era WWF/WWE and Bellator is WCW while on its way down. That's how much better UFC is than Bellator. I like both but Bellator ain't shit compared to the UFC right now.

Maybe if the new UFC owners keep being stupid then Bellator will rise, but it's going to take a long time for that to happen IMO. UFC is still #1 and will stay that way for years to come. Bellator is definitely getting better (not better than UFC) since they're finally getting some great, true top level fighters, but they're going to need a he'll of a lot more if they truly want to compete with the UFC.

I love both, especially the Pride style events that Bellator has sometimes, but the talent in the UFC makes it that much better and that's all there is to it.

I don't even get how people reach so far to make comparisons to fake wrestling. It is completely different "entertainment".

Dudes cutting promos and promotions manufacturing feuds to sell tickets/PPV's to a live event where they have a match for a championship belt. MMA is Pro Wrestling's bastard child. MMA is just another style of pro wrestling, it's legit pro wrestling marketed to grown ups. I don't understand why so many MMA and Pro Wrestling fans have such a hard time comprehending this. Anyone who knows the history knows what is up, everybody else got a weird "keep your peanut butter out of my chocolate" outlook on it.

Plus UFC just had their 2 best years.
WWF had about 5 years straight that were worse than the last.

And it's all thanks to Conor, lol. They basically just had their best 2 years EVER and hopefully this year will be just as good. Conor gets a lot of hate, but we can't deny he brings a lot of excitement still. All the talking and money aside, from a fan POV, Conor is awesome to watch as a fighter.

I don't care what anybody says - we're all going to miss him when he's gone, the haters too. The haters might miss him more than some of his fans for fuck's sake because they won't have anybody to cry about anymore.

None of that is wrong & none of that has to do with my point that there is no comparison lol

Actually a lot of it was RR too (TBF)

It was mostly directed towards the first thing you, but I did end up getting carried away as usual, lol.

I guess you're right about Ronda. I completely forgot about her since she hasn't been active. Another OT post (about something we've all talked about already): the way the UFC only talked about Ronda leading up to the Nunes fight was disgusting.

And I understand what TS is getting at, but it would've been better if he said UFC is WWF/WWE and Bellator is TNA. Saying Bellator is WCW and UFC is WWF is wrong since WCW basically blew WWF out of the water for quite a few years and with good reason.

I forget why WCW went downhill though, so I guess I'll need to read into that again. All I'm going to say is - WCW used to be awesome and WWF was meh. Attitude era WWF is the GOAT time period in pro wrasslin' for me though.

None of this really had to do with what you were saying either, but it's whatever.

Ha ... all good
We all go off topic
