Comic Book Discussion Thread V.17 (Batman/Deadpool Crossover; R.I.P. Peter David and Jim Shooter)

For any Marvel fans out there I don't know if you've seen the upcoming Xmen crossover after Desth of X.

INHUMANS vs XMEN

Not the Avengers this time but now the INHUMANS.

the art on low seems interesting. tocchini ever do any crime comics?

He's done some work for marvel and DC if I'm not mistaken but outside of that American Crime graphic novel I don't think he's done much other stuff in comics in regards to the crime genre.

Remender likes to use specific artists, I'm sure he'll use Greg again in the future for upcoming projects that support his artistic Tone.

how was Lemire's X-Men run, anyone?

Hey Prod

Not good, I dropped it a few issues in. The Xmen kinda suck now. The Xmen suck so bad now I miss the days of Messiah Complex, Messiah War and Second Coming. Looking back those stories were so damn good.

Prod skip Lemire's Xmen and read this from him instead.

Descender is phenomenal.

Oddly enough I came to post about how bad ass Lemire & Sorrentino's Old Man Logan is.

Lemire seems to have a good run of amazing artists working alongside him. Nguyen's art is Descender is outstanding. Sorrentino's art in Old Man Logan is fantastic.

I haven't read a comic in about 2 months, but I caught up on Hellboy.
Hellboy in Hell #10 is the last Hellboy story Mignola will commit to. He says he's retired the character. Sadly, this comes 10 issues too late. He's been mailing it in since Nimue ripped his heart out (art imitating life?).

Its incredible how lost he got on this run (he even admits to it https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/may/30/mike-mignola-final-hellboy-comic-paint-watercolors ).
Issue #9 takes HB from being speared to a tree to inexplicably conquering Hell as a giant demon walking over mountains in issue #10.

Thanks for the stories Mike and the iconic artwork. I don't think any other artist could have made Hellboy work.

What are peoples thoughts on the Hanna Barbara comics that have been coming out?

I know Future Quest is getting a lot of praise, and while I like it I feel the pacing is slow, and kind of boring. Scooby Doo Apocalypse and Wacky Raceland are pretty awesome though, but seems WR is already getting turned into a mini-series. Flintstones is the weirdest though, the humor at times is kind of dark it kind of throws me off, lol.

Seems they're also making a Jetsons too, and turning Rosie into a fuckbot. lol.

Some of the BEST stuff I've read in a LONG while. Southern Bastards is freaking AMAZING.

No opinion on their comics, but I just saw Alex Ross post this on FB.

One of my favorites of all time. Recently I was lucky to find in perfect condition Sandman Companion at the Library Book Sale, picked it up for 50 cents, lol. Can't wait to start reading it once I finish the other books I'm reading.

I like the *idea* of Future Quest because I'm a huge fan of throwback adventure-style books. But the way they have been doing it so far with the dimensional portals or teleportation circles or whatever seems cliched and lame to me. I was hoping for better.

Edit: I'm also not exactly crazy that they seemed to have crammed a bunch of not really related Hanna Barbera characters into this book the way they have. To me, it would have worked better if it was more like Image's Black Science where the main group of adventurers didn't meet the other characters until some kind of travel to their world/environment. The only exception might be the Blue Falcon.

Scooby Doo Apocalypse has been fun so far and I look forward to seeing where they go with it. Edit: Not only that, a zombie story just seems to fit with Scooby Doo's esthetic really well.

I didn't even know Wacky Races came out, I didn't see it. I'm not sure it's a great premise to hang a contiuing serial story on though.

It showed promise, it was Mad Max with the Wacky Racers and few issues I did read really interested me. I've heard they are giving Dick Dasterdly his own series now.

didn't know old man Logan was still going until I went to a comic book shop a couple weeks back. been reading that and harrow county which is older as well.

any horror recommendations?

Best horror comic in the market right now is Afterlife with Archie.
