Comic Book Discussion Thread V.16

Also the comic book talk has been dwindling day by day...

No one is posting anything in here anymore.. Kinda depressing..

Just finished of all preacher was a great read. Thinking about trying hellblazer out, heard mixed reviews about it. Anyone got some good input?

Yes, and by a lot thyere launching their new wave of comics..

Secret Wars will be going on for months after All new debuts..

Im enjoying secret Wars but IMO this move cheapens the series

I think Marvel completely botched their relaunch. Some of it's not their fault - cover solicitations are going to take place months in advance, but there's pretty much no dramatic tension in any of the series any more.

We know Dr. Strange isn't dead permanently. He comes back, because he has his own title and he's getting a movie. There are a half dozen She-Hulks and Captain Marvels running around. Who cares if one gets it? A Hawkeye died in one of the main Secret Wars titles. Who cares? There are still more, not to mention that Hawkeye (both Clint Barton and Kate Bishop) have an ongoing title that exists outside of the Secret Wars continuity.

Some of the "serious" titles have been great - Siege, Kovac Saga, Weirdworld, Inhumans - but others fell flat on their face. What was the point of the Future Imperfect ending? He's trapped in his own dream? Great. We KNOW that some version of Baron/Maestro Hulk is coming back. He's on multiple futures for chrissakes.

Talk about starting off with a bang but ending with a whimper.

I know it's manga, but we won't get into that. Recently I have been reading Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo again.

I mean fuckety fuck fuck, I had to stop reading What If Infinity Inhumans #1 after 3 pages because it gives away the fucking ending to all of Secret Wars. I guess I should have known better.

If you want originality, twists, comedy.

Bitch planet is awesome.

I'll have to post the ads on the back. Hilarious shit. This book actually got my girl into it.

Darkseid wars 4 was bad ass

Nameless 5 was sick. Event horizon x100. Still don't know what the fuck is happening but death torture n cool art have me hanging around. Grant Morrison is taking this to a weird place

Empty zone from image is pretty unique. Futuristic sci-fi ghost story

Now I'm reminded why I quit reafing superhero comics.

Descender for Lemire.

Descender is one of my favorite current titles.

The writing and art are fantastic. Reaching the end of each issue is a pain in the ass.. Feel the same about Black Science.

Has anyone read Secret Wars #6 yet? I just picked it up and blew through it in about 5 minutes. I love the story but hate it at the same time. How in the hell are they going to wrap this story up in 2 more issues? It's such a huge story and it seems that they have only scratched the surface. Granted I've only been reading the main Secret Wars story line, none of the side stories, can't really afford to read all of those. I know, by reading the new issue, that I've missed out on a few things by not reading the side stories but I'm just worried that this story is going to fall flat on its face and end really shitty and abruptly without much explanation. This story could go on for atleast 15 issues but it's got 2 left and I just don't see how they will wrap it up and leave fans satisfied.

Anyone pick up Batman and Robin Eternal #1? That last page tho....

Just finished the new Sandman comics, good shit. Also Saga and East of West continue to make me happy.

New Doctor Strange is extremely disappointing. Actually has me worried about the movie.

Side stories aren't really tying in.

I know what you mean about this story.

It's going 3 more not 2. They added a 9th issue over a month ago. Apparently issues 7 & 8 were both going to be near 60 pages each so they took both them down to 40 and the excess gets moved to the next issue which created a 9th.

Well that's not good at all.

Is the art on point though?

Bachalo's art is forever on fleek, although there was an abundance of mystical weapons used and far too few spells being cast. That being said, the big "uh-oh", comes from the characterization of this "new" Doctor Strange. He carries himself more like "MCU Tony Stark, Sorcerer Supreme", than the Stephen Strange I've embraced as Earth's Arcane Defender, and our Master of the Mystic Arts. The story is already cookie cutter after 1 issue and lacks any palpable sense of gravitas.

Oh, and Brother Voodoo is now Doctor Voodoo. And he lives in Manhattan...

So yeah, crap.

MCU Strange.

I'd heard that Marvel wants to replace RDJ's Stark/Iron Man character with BC's Strange as RDJ's contract is up and there's a slim chance he continues on as Tony Stark so Marvel would need to find a new Stark.

Wonder at what point the Tilda Swintonesque Ancient One and Chiwetel Ejioforesque Mordo pop up?

I didn't like any marvel new number ones.

I did however get the 2 what ifs.

Both pretty solid

I'mma try to snag a couple of the Skottie Young variant covers and read those. If I like the title enough I might continue buying it.

Is Weirdworld getting canned?

Also, is the artist from Weirdworld doing Venom: Space Knight (or whatever it's called)?

I went to NYC COMIC CON Thursday.

Had a good time and realized stereotypes about the genre are 100% true.

Also got two awesome colored prints signed by Jerome Opena. An awesome avengers age of Ultron one and a Thanos with infinity gauntlet one.
