You had to fuck up a perfectly on-topic story with a condescending reply, tried to baby-talk someone's real-life kid and followed it up by making an illegitimate kids joke about the same poster's real-life daughter. Grow the fuck up. When you have daughters you'll know how not okay that shit is.

That's awesome. Welcome to the elder gods, little girl!

"THE KILLING JOKE? Sounds like something for my eight year old."

Tell me. Was it the Brian Bolland cover that didn't quite -- but definitely did -- seem like like a Calvin Klein ad for rape and murder?

Parents? Know what your children are ingesting, before they ingest it and before you hand it to them. Unlike Barbara Gordon, you don't get to give out retcons. You know, because they're not anybody else's kids.

Allegedly.

Was this somehow edited? Not sure what was said to get Mac's jimmies rustled.

Or it was written like some weird-ass condescending PSA to all "Parents" after bolding the title as if everyone involved is retarded.

The "little girl" congratulation is fake too, he goes on to caution against that shit like he's on some PBS after-school special. Like who are you talking to.

Past the midway point on that list, will start the 2nd half next week.

Nearing the end, on New Avengers #30. Got the 2nd/final collection of Gotham City Sirens while I stepped back from Avengers, similar to The Authority after the creative team from the first left the book it was a step down. Where the first book featured the girls forming this mismatched team and finding a way to make things work (including dealing with Nigma) while going at it with villains around Gotham... this one they are all going nuts for the most part. Not so much fun.

I posted the story because our daughter took it like a champ, went back to bed, and we averted the major disaster (League of Extraordinary Gentleman is far worse.) I just thought it was hilariously terrifying that Alan Moore comics show up in the children's section. That's probably happening in libraries everywhere.

Not the one I worked at, in fact the comic section is the farthest section from the kids section. Maybe you just have a crappy library.

Dude, you need to be less sensitive on the Internet. I'm a father of two daughters myself (9 and 10), and completely agree with what he said. It's a constant battle policing what my kids are exposed to, and certain keywords are always on our radar. And sometimes things can slip by. Shit happens. But to blame the author for something a publisher would have control over? The library? Maybe, but maybe your library sucks. Ultimately, it falls to us as parents. And you know the old saying about assuming.....

She assumed wrong, and you handled it. Kudos. Too bad you also made the mistake of assuming that posting your tale on Sherdog of all places, would go by without anything negative being said. So yeah, good luck with that and all.

So.....getting back to comics.

I binged the GotG series from Marvels .99 cent sale last week. Pretty damn good. Different in tone from the movie, but still entertaining.

"Blam! Murdered you!"

Relevant story: my 8 yr old daughter read TDKR and couldn't understand why batman had to fight superman since they're both good guys. I tried to explain the back story and each characters reasoning to her as best I could but I could tell that while she didn't quite get it, she now knows that not all comics have happy endings and life isn't as simple as she thought.

Preacher is up next

Maybe its the Librarian's job or something, but holy fucking shit my 8 year old daughter took both home, thanks to my wife not knowing a thing about Alan Moore.

Not maybe, definitely. Fundamental part of the job.

Call someone's kids illegitimate in real life and you'll have real life problems, Keyboard Warrior.

Stick to the thread topic. That's out of line.

My wife didn't know anything about Batman comics or Alan Moore, she obviously thought the Joker on the cover was the typical bad guy who gets stopped by Batman at the end of every comic before he gets the chance to do any real damage. Those rules may have applied to comics in the early days, but comic fans know Alan Moore doesn't operate like that.

Luckily our daughter didn't have the faintest idea what rape is, she just couldn't understand why Batman wasn't able to stop the Joker sooner. She knows what "killing" is, she just doesn't want to see it happen to Batgirl. You can't tell your eight year old "well honey, the guy who wrote this Batman comic doesn't give two shits about Batgirl and has tons of sexual fantasies" you just say "I understand___" (*insert my daughters name here, because 1. it's not part of forum policy and 2. Sherdoggers clearly can't be trusted when assholes like Fish try to write a "welcome to the adult club, little girl" addressed to a fucking eight year old girl) "but the Joker is the bad guy, so he does bad things until he's defeated."

...Seriously Fish. Get your shit together. You're not sweet-talking someone's eight year old daughter, you fucking psychopath. You're replying to her father.

Dude..... Smoke a joint or something

Ur wife gave your 8 year old daughter a book with the word "KILLING" on the cover. what the heck did u think was in it? Birds of the world?

That's pure common sense man

But she doesn't know Batman or Alan Moore. Haven't you been paying attention? Only Moore would put "killing" in the title and have the story feature violence.

Exactly. Those words are gimme's. I have a hard enough time wading through all the YouTube videos with titles that have secret innuendos and double entendres. Like those Skittles taste the rainbow videos that didn't have the disclaimer on it. Fun times.

It's like seeing a book with the word NUDITY as the title and than being shocked there was nudity in it.

Buttttttt never once thinking to look through it before you give it to your 8 year old.

Laughable

teach your wife common sense so she will know that a comic book called "the killing joke" at the very least is going to have some killing going on. and it should be looked through before given it to an 8 year old.

but i don't think this actually happened anyway.

Anyone keeping up on Marvels Star Wars comics...

A Lando Calrissian mini will be dropping soon. As he is one of my all time favorite Star Wars characters im real excited to read this. Plus Charles Soule is on the writing duties so I figure it should be pretty good.

The new JLA comic is pretty good. First issue was 48 pages with a cool story line. The ending page was great and pretty exciting. Looking forward to this and having 2 Justice League books per month.

Our daughter can handle "Killing" people, she reads wolverine comics and loves them.

The whole "torture batgirl topless and make Gordon watch" is probably the less-comic friendly part. Batgirl isn't killed, by the way.

you haven't read the comic have you?

the joker shot her.

then he stripped her naked, it doesn't say if he did anything to her while she was naked, all we know is he took pictures of her naked(him taking her clothes off and taking the pictures are not shown in the book)

gordon didn't watch any of it besides her getting shot. the joker just showed the pictures to gordon (again, the pictures don't tell what happened to her, she is the only one in the pictures so it probably wasn't rape)to psychologically torture him.

the point is, if your daughter doesn't even know what rape is the book is so ambiguous as to what happened to barbara after being shot it's hard to believe that she would think to much of it besides being upset that she got shot. i'd imagine an 8 year old being confused more than anything.

I used "tortured" to reference the nasty rape parallels after the shooting (paralyzed and helpless...taking photos of her body naked in an effort to "break" Gordon when he sees them in the ride...Alan Moore comic....) but yeah it's been debated. Could be Joker was only suggesting it, but let's be fucking real for a second: Alan. Moore. Comic. Knowing Alan Moore, I have a strong feeling that's where the story really headed. Guy loves putting sex in his comics. There's a reason there's an unknown number of pages cut from the comic, and they've only just released one (google fu, brother.)

Plus he wanted Gordon to lose his mind from seeing the photos, and he's the fucking Joker in an Alan Moore comic, not some Batman Beyond kid-friendly villain who stages photos to keep them from what, getting "too dark"? Fuck outta here.

And Alan Moore sure loves some rape. So it probably is what it looks like. My phrasing's just my adult horror to seeing she pulled that off a kids section bookshelf. My wife thought the Wolverine comics were intense anyway, but she doesn't get Alan Moore's track record with keeping his female characters unmolested.

Anyway my daughter doesn't know about any of that, she was crying because the Joker clearly stuck around and stripped Barb naked in a pool of blood, so it looks like some torture or beatings to her, you condescending fuck. Move on.
