collarbone strikes

If it only took 7 pounds of pressure then children all over the world would be crippled trying to carry their school bags with broken collarbones
c'mon man, you've got to be sharper than that. I obviously meant seven lbs applied directly onto the clavicle. Look it up if you don't believe me.

Maybe you meant to say 70lbs and not 7lbs? Because I know I could drop a 10lb weight on my clavicle and it wouldn't be anywhere near breaking

I've always heard that it only takes seven pounds of pressure to break the clavicle. That being the case, why don't we see MMA competitors using collarbone strikes. It seems to me it wouldn't be that hard to strike someone there. Don't get me wrong. I'm glad they don't because I don't care to see that level of brutality, but as far as I know, there isn't a rule against it.

even if it was the case, that "pressure", a physics term, is not easy to apply in the heat of battle.

Secondly, clavicles can be broken with a strike. Hard for anyone to readily target though. If you're so focused on breaking the bone you might not be able to defend a cross or hook to the body.

One thing is the force as a dead weight making pressure onto something, another diferent thing is the same weight given by hitting onto the same thing. It's kinda shock force vs pressure force; so depends on the circumstances.

Nah, it's seven. i'm really surprised so many people are disputing me in this age of Google. Just look it up. I've heard it for years though. I assumed it was common knowledge. Any rate, I've been doing some thinking and reading comments about it other places and I think I know what the deal is; it's probably referring to 7 pounds per square inch. if the force is distributed over a greater area as it almost always would be, it will take a great deal more force.

Frank Shamrocks slam of Igor snapped his. Ended his fight career. But that was way more force than a punch. Dont think a single punch could do it to a fighter who isnt pinned down.
