Media Colby Covington on why he hasn’t fought in the last 18 months

Do you believe Colby accepted fights against Khamzat and Poirier?

I can argue that colby didn't either. He fought usman and lost had a relatively normal turn around for the masvidal fight, got assulted by masvidal might have had legal things to go through as well as dental surgery + recovery period.

Could be argued it wasn't his fault. I know no one would ever give colby the benefit of that doubt, but that very well could have cost him 6 months of fighting, completely beyond his control. the the opportunity to fight leon presented itself after march, now we've waited 7 months since then. there's your year of sitting out.
You could argue that. But Colby himself denies that this is the case and claims he has been accepting fights left right and center during that time off.

With Leon, we know for a fact he accepted fights because they were actually booked and advertised. The Woodley fight was cancelled due to the pandemic and the entire card was pulled.

The Khamzat fights fell through twice due to injury and once due to Khamzat claiming he had long covid and promptly retiring from the sport.

The Masvidal fight was scheduled for December 2021 and Jorge pulled out with a back injury.

All we have to suggest Colby has been accepting fights with Khamzat and Poirier and they ducked him is his word, which is notoriously unreliable at best. Nothing has ever been booked or even rumoured.

So while I'm not able to take Colby at his word, and your scenario is far more likely than his, the fact that he openly denies your story of events was the actual case here is relevant.

Besides, your initial argument wasn't that Colby wasn't tactically sitting out, it was that Leon WAS doing that. And there's more than enough evidence out there that shows you are flat out wrong on this.

Dental surgery takes a few hours at most sir.
I broke my front tooth in half the same way when I was 11 and the dentist fixed it in about an hour....and we were poor as fuck.

He's all over the place.

In one post he's saying Colby accepted fights with Dustin and Khamzat and they ducked him, and in another he's arguing he was unable to fight because he was embroiled in a legal battle. It can't be both.

Meh. At least he answered why he hasn't fought in so long unlike Gregor Gillespie who hasn't fought in two and a half years.

yeah im not talking about how long the surgery takes, but how long until you can do contact training?

On top of that the legal battle claiming damages it's probably not good to be actively training when you're trying to draw money out of a court case for getting assulted

Once you get it done I was at football practice the next week.

That "legal battle" is horse shit and even Colby said he was accepting fights at that time.

Well. At least one of the stories has to be horseshit. The legal battle or the accepting fights.

For one of those to be true the other has to be BS.

Hell, it's Colby we are talking about, there's a healthy chance both are BS.

I'll go with both to be safe and cover all bases sir lmao

UFC's desperate as fuck to sell tickets which is why Colby is getting the shot.

Colby's motto is taking the easiest fight for the most money, which is why he picks washed up fighters like Woodley, Jorge and Lawler.

I think you’re right and Colby doesn’t have any credibility so nobody should believe what he says. That being said, if one is unconcerned about one’s legacy, taking the easiest fights for the most money is the absolute smartest thing to do. I think most of us would take an easier job for more money than a harder job for less.

God, whenever this dude speaks, he insults the intelligence of everyone.
I know he's playing a character but yiiikes.
Or....hear me out....he is a genius. He has not fought in 18 months and he is fighting for the title....again.

100% he accepted a fight against DP. That’s the exact kind of fight he’d like. Easiest stylistic matchup with a massive name could easily headline a PPV. More than likely didn’t accept a fight against Khamzat

He accepted Poirier that's dumb as fuck. Khamzat, Belal, Shavkat definitely no. They are lucky no one can prove anything.

I believe Colby agreed to both fights, Poirier and Khamzat, but both guys weren’t able to take the fights for whatever reason. UFC contractually has to offer three fights a year, Colby isn’t bsing here. He also did sitout for a bit due to the assault and subsequent lawsuit, Dana even said this during a media scrum, but that’s not his fault Masvidal is an idiot
