Has always been the same. Use big names to promote up and coming prospects.

Did it in Strikeforce with Diaz, Shamrock, Carano, Fedor...to promote up and coming guys like DC, Rockhold, Jacare, romero, Woodley.

Don't get caught up in the Liddell signing or all the other old guys they sign...That's just to get ppl to watch, then they'll see the next DC, Rockhold, Jacare, Romero, Woodley on the undercard.

Every big card I promise either a Pico or Ruth or Mckee or Jordan Young or Fortune or lovato Jr is going to be on the undercard. And eventually they'll try and put those guys over against the older guys.

the plan is for him to do more coke

coker has no plan, i remember people here were nuthugging scott coker, thinking his plans will make bellator better

he's not promoting any up and comer this time.

also in Strikeforce he used the younger Shamrock bro to draw attention; in Bellator he used the older brother ten years later. it's straight up circus now.

Copy paste from another thread because i am lazy.

I understand why people on these boards hate on Bellator for signings like this one but people need to understand that without these names Bellator is done.

Casual viewers will not tune in for someone like Caldwell, or any other champion theyt currently have. without these faded stars these guys wouldnt have a big platform to compete on with the exception of the ufc. ever wonderd why every other *big* mma organisation has failed and why Bellator still survives? I think one of the main reasons is because Bellator is using these guys to attract the viewers. clearly its working if you look at the numbers.

Bellator should promote its current crop of champions and contenders even better but i doubt they have the recources to do that properly and i still believe Coker tries to use these legends to catapult his real talent to the mainstream audience.

dont blame Bellator, blame the dumbass viewers for their stupid demands for these kinds of legend fights.

We as hardcores May claim to not like it, but you’re kidding yourself if you say you don’t watch it.

This plan is implimented because this plan has worked in the past.

MLS is doing the same thing in the sense that they sign fading legends from Europe to draw attention.

Hardcores say they want events with homegrown talent/up and comers, but cry “weak card” whenever Bellator does it. Yesterday’s event was a prime example of that.

Bellator booked shancez in a co main in an upcoming card, and people are crying weak event.

I don’t want to see Liddell come back, but who isn’t going to watch? Honest question.

The problem is Sanchez's opponent, Sam Sicilia. Sanchez goes from beating one of Bellator's best 145ers to a UFC castoff. Sicilia needed more than a win over Galvao (didn't bother to re-sign) on the prelims to get rid of the bad taste. It is not like Sicilia was popular in the UFC, so they could have really booked anybody in this slot. Juan Archuleta would have been better because we don't know if he is a finished product yet.

The fact that dam was on the prelims for his debut kind of proves my point. Would have been ridiculous if they threw him on the main card right away, but they didn’t. Sanchez has had main card and even co mains more than once in Bellator. This is an example of Bellator putting Sanchez in a prominent slot. Sam is just the opponent.

I do agree that Sanchez should be fighting someone more highly ranked than Sam. I would have booked corrales vs Sanchez

Coker didn't sign Fedor to promote other fighters. He thought that he was getting a great HW who could win and draw money.

It's different. SF already had big names, some in their prime. He then signed a bunch of MORE top 10 talent and got the biggest free agent on board. Then the huge GP, and the end. Went from Frank S, Carano and Cung to Reem, Fedor and Ronda. No one talked about Romero back then.

Now with BT the talent pool to acquire is smaller, as his own previous talent is in the UFC's top 10 or they're basically or literally retired. So he HAS to sign old timers to get numbers, while what once was signing Fedor now is signing Rory...not the same impact and not the same spread between promotions. Still gets good prospects like back then and still signs Gracie's.

Comers plan should be to make sure Conor is there for Jimmy Boy on April 6th.

Show him on the broadcast as much as possible and advertise him as UFC lightweight champion.

Bonus points to Coker if he convinces McGregor to wear the belt.

We've been hearing this for years about how their bringing in these castoffs and geriatrics to get numbers and build new stars, except it hasnt been working.

The numbers have been tanking and the worst they have every been and they yet to build any real stars.

First the groupthink hated on Pride.....UFC buys Pride

Then hated on EliteXC
Then hated on Strikeforce... UFC buys SF/XC

It's always the same story, hate on UFC's competition. Instead of, you know, supporting (or atleast don't blindly hate) an organization that is still trying to put on shows with what scraps of fighters they can find left available, sign, or build up.

His plan is to see how many events he can do in a row that do under 500k viewers.

Coker has had four years in the job.

He hasn’t built a single indigenous name. He is entirely dependent on old men ten years or more past their prime, or guys who the UFC allowed to walk in order to force Bellator to overpay and blow their budget.

He’s got nothing. It’s absolutely dismal.
