Cody McKenzie donates blood to make weight!

he's 6' tall, 145 was probably pretty hard on him with any sort of muscle mass.

I understand that, but how do you go from being able to make 145 to needing to donate blood to make 170?

That's 25 pound difference. That's Anthony Johnson level. Did Cody add shit load of suspect muscle or something?

Thats some pretty old school stuff, heard of lots o wrestlers doing that to make weight, but the "normal" practice I've heard of is taking out the last weight in blood for weigh-ins and the inserting it again afterwards.

Christ almighty that's ridiculous!! The lengths fighters will go to to make weight are crazy

I've never heard of donating blood to make weight. It's only a pound and leaves you dizzy and weak. I can't really see why you would lose a pound only to be forced to eat sugary foods and drink Gatorade. Seems counter-productive to me.

I donate blood, but doing it to cut weight seems unhealthy... Also this tells me that weight cutting is going way too far.

Sherdog has the weigh in pictures...he is bigger than he used to be but doesn't look like 170 should have been a problem

This is the same guy who forgot to bring his shorts to his last fight in the UFC. It's probably a case of him not taking it seriously, not the cut being too big.

I'm waiting for the guy who drains his blood and then puts it back in post weigh in.

That's probably a bit too close to blood doping for the commission to allow

This is the guy Mendes beat that has everyone saying Mendes has improved so much he'll beat Aldo.

I wouldn't have considered this to be funny if it was anyone else but Cody. Lmao, that guy is just hilarious no matter what he does.

I see this gif all the time - where is it taken from? Looks like it gotta be satire...

I'm not certain about any health ramifications and I don't put a lot of stock into Doctors because let's face it, with the right words and some cash they will give or say what is desired. It does raise the question of at what point does weight cutting go too far?

Used to run track and cross country in hs. donating blood made my performance in practice really shitty for at least two days. can't imagine this is a good idea..

It's not satire, just Cody McKenzie.

They ran that clip in a preview of Cody McKenzie before one of his UFC fights. Not sure which event it was, but I'd imagine it's the TUF 12 finale, judging by his mustache at the weigh-ins for that one.

Ps. Of course, the "SHIT JUST GOT REAL" part wasn't in the preview.
