He talks about how the sport is brutal, each fight takes years off his life, guys getting paid 10k to fight, only the cream of the crop gets paid.

fastest growing sport, something’s gotta change. Unions. Etc

Does TJ have him shook? The whole interview he seems scared about his health because of his son and his desire to make money for his family.

Does he know he can get a regular job like everybody else and be happy to make 60k a year lol? Or does his wife expect more?

UFC fighters are under paid old news, nothing will change unfortunately because of just greed

he is scared TJ is gonna give him more brain damage.

and if you think it's a good idea to get neck tats you probably don't have a lot of brain cells to spare

Dunno, Cody, did you pay for your $150,000 car, huge house and private jet rental with peanuts?

Fighters stay in the game way too long, give it your all and get out quick.

Sell more PPV... get paid. It is a give and take business. Dana throws a million dollar party... you get CTE for the cake served.

Pick a different profession. No one forces anyone to fight.

Just like football it's a young man's game. Get in, give it everything you got, use it to springboard you to something else, get out sooner than later.

Honestly thought this was a Cody McKenzie thread...

Nothing will change til the fighters at the top of the pay scale start voicing their opinions more and pushing their employers to look after the lower paid ones, the MMA promotions need the big names to make money and they are the ones that can assist change. GSP did it when he wasn't fighting, haven't heard much from him since he has been back regarding lower paid fighters. Mcgregor is in the position to do something especially since he seems to care about the up and coming fighters in his gym, unfortunately he doesn't contribute to the discussion.

i mean he could talk all that shit but if it wasn't for the UFC chances there is no fucking way he would be living the way he is right now and that goes for a lot of guys in the UFC they could all leave but no other fucking job is gonna pay you like that for 1 days work

Until the fighters speak as one, business as usual. Fighter pay will slowly increase as revenue increases as it has over the years.

If the company selling for 4 Billion and than raising more cash at a value of 6 billion, reebok deal, and USADA shoved down their throats I don't know what the hell it is going to take for fighters to unite and form some sort of association to speak as one.

He’s a manlet with neck tats, whatever they pay him it’s too much.

It's not about "speaking up". It's about competition.

Guys in the UFC used to get $2k to show and an entire fight card might have a $400k payroll in the 2006-2011 period when Zuffa was making money hand over fist, and buying up all the competition. MAYBE 5% of their revenue went to the fighters then, possibly less.

It's now 17%, a far cry from the 45+% of basketball or football, but a huge improvement, despite the UFC being less profitable. What accounts for the difference?

Simply the huge number of alternatives there are all over the world now. Bellator is a solid #2 in the US that pays guys well, Rizin and One FC are attractive options in Asia, many countries have at least one thriving MMA promotion, and Russia has no fewer than 3, etc.

Hate how poorly guys in the UFC get paid? Then support the alternatives as much as you can.

60k/year is peanuts. Also, who's to say he could easily get a job paying 60k? He quit college after a couple weeks, is covered in tats from the neck down, and generally isn't the brightest bulb on the tree. Outside of coal mining, which he already said he doesn't want to do, I don't know how many options Cody would have.

He doesn't seem like the smartest fellow to begin with so I get why he's worried about losing some brain cells.
