They watched the replays and decided a DQ. Tough break, others have gotten away with worse. But this one was quite visible so hard to ignore. Everyone knows who was the better fighter. He loses a win bonus and potentially finish bonus. So painful $. Expect his career no worse off. UFC will not ding him. AC need to draw a line and this is an example message to others.
The issue its not the AC drawing a line, its because its 100% up to the fighter if they want to continue, he knew he was getting a DQ win and took it, should he continue when his opponent cheated? Its a tough question, but then again, fighters are choosing to milk it instead, he did and he knows it, they put a show for the doctor/ref when fights get stopped and act more hurt than what they actually are, they dont usually react to the strike only after the ref intervenes then they act all hurt and confused, its not wrong but isnt right either, i guess a few fighters will continue to take L's as long as the ref does their job right.
Brundage was being dominated by shots worse than the ones in the GIF, then as soon as he got an opportunity out he took it.
Initial reaction to elbow.
Reaction once the doctor started to check on him.

Exactly, lesson is for the guy on top tho, dont foul your opponent so they cant milk it.
Whether the fighter wants to continue or not, it’s up to referee to determine whether the competitive integrity of the bout has been compromised. A dude whipping illegal strikes despite multiple warnings has done just that.
Nope, its always up to the fighter, they check and pretend to discuss, but the final call its the fighter saying it outright they cant continue, or just play the silent card to the doctor and fight gets stopped, in the case of this foul, there is no accidental factor, 100% intentional for any ref with a pulse, 100% DQ.
Edit: Misread your post, ref rules how legal or not was the strike, in this case its 100% intentional, this is the same ref that DQ'd Yan, he isnt afraid to call fouls like they are, every ref should do the same.
