Rose seems well coached and gets great advice in between rounds but his guys Gaethje and Matthew Lopez seem like he just told them to ‘go’ do your thang and good luck son.

With Matthew Lopez, why didn’t his corner just walk him through the back mount? He kept forcing the submission and gassing himself out when his corner should’ve just told him to calm down, take your time and land some GnP. Maybe let go of the body triangle before you sink in the RNC since you were too high up?

Iono man I wonder about these professional fighters and their coaching/corner sometimes like how are they pros but don’t coach them through advice like this?

Edit: cuz apparently nobody saw this Lopez fight

he's one of the only coaches that is willing to throw the towel in, you are crazy if you think he doesnt care about his fighters

trevor witless is a poor mans jasin parillo. what that means IDK

he's like the 30 something randy couture of the 40 something crowd

Gaethje went out there with zero adjustments from his last fight and zero adjustments from round to round from his team. In fact, I recall him faking a couple takedowns and coming up the middle with strikes in his previous fights, something he regressed to do against Poirier.

Gaejthe seems like a guy who's going to go about his business the way he wants to fight until he turns around asks otherwise and Trevor seems like a guy who's totally ok with that.....
I'd like to to be a fly on wall this week with him maybe sitting down and rethinking the way he's going into these UFC fights.

Gaethje is what he is. He's fought that way in all 20 of his pro fights. It's what got him to the UFC, it's what got him to main event fights, it's what gets him Fight of the Night bonuses every time he fights. Wittman's not gonna change that, and even if he tried, I don't think Gaethje's gonna change who he is.

Justin Gaethje's fans are the ones who don't care about his health. Zombie Mode is not a good strategy. Now, the dude is losing brain cells at a rapid pace, and also losing fights. So, what is the point of what he is doing? Entertaining drunk retarded fans?

Justin Gaethje could be a better fighter if he learned some championship level fight IQ.

i think he just knows gaethje is gonna fight how he always does no matter what, so he encourages/hypes him up.

Conventional wisdom says, you wouldn’t need to throw in the towel in the first place if you just give them better advice in between rounds or better training?

Matthew Lopez looked like a blue belt submission hunting without proper set ups. When I’m in back mount, I’m in control of the pace of this fight, not you. Usually the person on bottom is the person that’s gassing and squirming and in this case, it worked against him cuz he went all out trying to snatch the neck when it wasn’t there, his corner didn’t walk him through the sequences.

conventional wisdom says you clearly havent ever cornered/coached anyone before. Sometimes no matter the advice or prior training, bad things happen during fights. Justin has been really successful with his style, I highly doubt he would let his coach change it completely at this stage of his career

also Trevor is a boxing coach, wtf do you expect him to explain about BJJ?

You do realise different fighters respond differently to things? Some like to be told theyre doing amazing, others are told theyre doing shit when in fact theyre not etc. There isnt one size fits all.

Whittman is one of the best coaches in the game.

Then why is he coaching MMA fighters? Go fucking coach some boxers? Don’t assume I’ve never cornered anyone before you don’t even know me. That shit is basic BJJ, you’ve probably never even rolled in your life if you disagree with how he went about that back mount.

And I get Gaethje’s case, the dude is hard headed and prob won’t change his game.

I don't think conventional wisdom says this at all. Conventional wisdom recognizes that shit happens. You can lose, even when well trained and well prepared.

I didnt even see the fight you are talking about

he owns an MMA facility thats why, he's the head striking coach and has his fighters work with BJJ and wrestling coaches. Its one of their responsibilities to talk the fighters through those sequences, not Trevors. Also if you had ever cornered someone you would realise that the corner can only do so much, if the fighter was squirming about like you mentioned his mind was probably in a panic, literally zero information would be retained even if he was listening if he was panicking.

but you keep telling us all about your experience mr BJJ expert

You do realize mma coaches don't need to know all fighting styles right? Do you really think Greg Jackson is personally teaching his fighters to wrestle, strike, and do submissions? Stupid thread is stupid .

Then this conversation is moot point if you didn’t watch the fight?

Some of you people need to come to grips with the fact that Gaethje chooses to fight like that, and it's the most effective style for him to have a chance at beating elite level competition and get over with the fans. The latter is something that he really cares about.

Wittman is his coach not his legal guardian.

If Gaethje made the adjustments that people that people want him to, he would be another dime a dozen MMA wrestle-boxer and nobody would give a shit about him.

Look I’ll concede to Justin’s style. It’s def not Wittman’s fault that Justin is a glutton for punishment. I honestly like watching Just Bleed fights as much as the next fan but a part of me does not enjoy watching him fight.

But Wittman only trains 3 fighters. He’s got 3 people he coaches exclusively: Justin, Rose and Lopez. Neither showed any boxing skill, or BJJ awareness, then what exactly are we doing out here?

He told Marquardt how much he loved him in between rounds and threw the towel in because he couldn't keep watching him get destroyed.

Wittman definitely does care

Your complaints are mostly that he's not a good coach, which I will buy into. But to say he doesn't care isn't fair.
