Both men in the upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight title tilt think things will play out differently than their first meeting.

Alex Pereira (12-3) has prepared aggressively for his championship rematch with Magomed Ankalaev (20-1-1, 1 NC) with his team at Teixeira MMA & Fitness in Connecticut. The 38-year-old will attempt to claim his 205-pound belt back from the Russian in the main attraction of UFC 320 on Saturday, which goes down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Ankalaev recently suggested that their second tilt would be “completely different,” and Pereira is happy to be part of the difference.

Pereira’s coach, Plinio Cruz, gave an interview with Brazilian outlet Ag. Fight on Wednesday, where he went over how he is training his fighter for the second encounter.

“I think he’s better than in his other fights,” the coach noted. “We were very focused on the last six weeks in Connecticut. We didn’t even spend much time at my gym; we did more training at Glover [Teixeira]’s gym. [Pereira is] focused, hungry and eager, and that will be shown on Saturday.

Talk is Cheap; Fighting is What Matters

Cruz suggested that Pereira has been laser-focused in his preparation for the pivotal match in his career. A loss would put “Poatan” on his first career losing streak, and at his age, there many not be many opportunities to climb the ladder again. This does not matter to his team, as they expect that a return to form for Pereira is exactly what he needs.

“The strategy for the fight will be for ‘Poatan’ to fight the way he’s always fought. What made ‘Poatan’ [who he is] is fighting forward, seeking the fight, applying pressure and winning that fight,” the coach broke down.

From all the videos posted it looks like Poatan is more hungry for Nina Drama

All I hear is excuses... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's disheartening to hear Poatan talk like this. Dude is trying to drink his own kool aid, now that he aint champ anymore.

Not trying to talk down on Poatan, but a lot of rematches have this "hungry and more focused than ever" yet how often does the fighter who lost wins again? 20%?

Everyone is always more prepared than ever yet results don't show...

I'm cheering for him to get it done though.

He got thoroughly beaten. I don't even care to watch it, it was a boring fight. I'm beyond sick of all the undeserved rematches.

I used to like Poatan, still do to some extent. But he needs to stop the bullshit excuses and shut the fuck up.
You lost the last fight fair and square , you werent robbed.

Hope he’s hungry and eager for an ass whooping, because that’s what he’s about to get.
