"Shogun had a knee injury for a while, and felt it again training jiu-jitsu," Cordeiro said. "He went to the UFC doctor to check and continued training, but the UFC contacted him and cancelled the fight. Shogun said he would still fight despite the injury, but the UFC called and decided to cancel. That came directly from Lorenzo [Fertitta]. Lorenzo saw the exams, saw it was an old injury, and the UFC decided to remove him from the fight. He’s out of this one."

Has to be tough at that level.

You pick up these injuries that never real heal, and flare up in training camps.

Not an easy profession, and props to those who can retire relatively healthy.

What's another name for getting a rubber ring replaced around your rim?

oh yeah,

RETIRE

Pretty sad but what can you do... those fighters usually don't have any other skills so there's nothing they can do unless they are good at coaching. OK, they can do some simple job like being a janitor or a fruit vendor but nobody who's earned millions over his career will retire to start doing that.

At least he told someone he was injured, unlike hendo where they kept it a secret til right before the card

Everyone talks about Conor always stepping up to fight, but Shogun is a fucking beast. Dude just doesn't give a fuck and fights whenever. Dude fought Machida just a couple of weeks after having his appendix removed FFS.

WAR SHOGUN!

Poor guy. His knees have been hurting him for years. I always wonder how guys like him don't ever think about if they're even going to be able to walk in 10-15 years. He's given the sport so much, if he wanted to walk away for his health I'd applaud him and his career.

It is a shame that Shogun's bum knees are cutting what could have been an amazing career short.

The guys is a warrior. He fought Forrest while needing knee surgery for example.

Too bad his knees have constantly derailed his career.

Shogun was my favorite fighter pre UFC.

His UFC career has been really lackluster unfortunately :/

Hate to say it, but for Shogun's health it might be time to retire. His knees keep getting fucked up and if this continues the man won't be able to walk right

Oh man it's a knee injury? Please retire Shogun. This man has given us his all. Go home to your beautiful family.

If he were really tough he would have fought instead of pulling out and having his coach talk about how tough he is

He wants to fight, but they won't let him, so that makes him tough, Shogun is a warrior
