Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson and his running mate, Bill Weld, will sit down with anchor Chris Cuomo in this prime-time event on June 22. The town hall will take place at 9 p.m. ET from the Time Warner Center in New York City and air on CNN, CNN International and CNN en Espanol, while also being live-streamed via CNNgo.

Cuomo and voters will ask questions of Johnson and Weld at the town hall, similar to those posed to the Democratic and Republican candidates during the primaries. This will be the 11th town hall hosted by CNN during this presidential election cycle.

I think this might be the first time the Libertarian party got prime time exposure on a major news network.

LOL, apparently CNN hasn't seen the polling that shows that GJ is pulling more Clinton support away, then Trump support.

I'm sure that CNN will do their best to discredit the Libertarian movement.

I've always find Libertarians to be a peculiar and self-contradictory group, perhaps because there's such a wide range of folks from all over the spectrum claiming to be Libertarians.

Will tune in to watch.

Which poll? Seems unlikely since Hillaty has nothing in common with libertarians.

I guess trump doesnt either though.

Glad this is happening. I fucking hate the R and D right now.

YES. Great step forward. Waiting for all the uninformed out there to WAKE UP and realize that there aren't just 2 choices.. you are not throwing away your vote, you are making your voice heard. You don't have to pick the 2 of lesser evils. If you don't like someone, DONT VOTE FOR THEM.

Yeah, giving them a forum to let their ideas be heard is the literally the best possible thing that they can do to discredit the movement.

That's ok, just know that L can (and I believe is) much, much worse.

Great. Then hopefully include them in the debates.

Agreed. Once people hear GJ's ideas he will get even less support than he has now. The one I find completely laughable is the position that we eliminate income tax and the IRS entirely and replace it with a consumption tax! Holy fucking regressive!

We don't need to rehash old arguments, but I do think the average person will not buy into the idea of paying a huge, essentially, sales tax, to replace the income tax.

I find it highly unlikely that he'll be able to implement such a plan.

Agreed. It's near impossible. But I think that is another clue that GJ would be an awful president. Not only is the tax plan horrendous, it isn't feasible or attainable.

It's my understanding that me needs to poll nationally at 15% to get into the presidential debates.

That's what I hear. Hard to believe that can be a law though. Wouldn't it be up to the news outlet hosting the debate, provided the other two candidates elected to participate?

Not to surprising this happens with a lot of groups espicially these days with the internet. Feminism is a great example of this. You have some that truly just wants things to be equal between men and women. Then you have the ones who want men to go to jail if they get drunk with another women who is also drunk and they decide to have sex.

Yup, so this first-ever TV debut might give the Libertarian movement the boost they're looking for...or simply kills it right then and there.

It is a weird group for several reasons: A lot of people claim to be libertarians who actually aren't. A lot of republicans especially claim this, but are more authoritarian than they care to admit. They also make seemingly contradictory statements, but only because they argue against both sides of a normally 2-sided debate. Libertarians often gets conflated with anarchists as well.

I'm sort of in the libertarian camp and know that it often seems self-contradictory, because you couldn't possibly be a libertarian and go along with either side. For example, I don't want both open borders and more social programs, any more than I want a war on drugs that costs a ton of money. The problem is when we discuss single issues, where the choices are "do whatever you want at others' expense", or "you can't do that". It's one or the other right now, when it should be "do what you want and it's none of our business".

I guess trump doesnt either though.

In the latest Fox News poll of the general, Trump led Clinton by 3 points, 45-42. When Libertarian Johnson was added, Trump led Clinton again by 3 points, 42-39, with Johnson picking up 10 percent support. Both Trump and Clinton each lost 3 points of support when the Libertarian was added to the mix.

Quinnipiac University released a poll on Wednesday showing a general election toss-up, with Clinton holding a slight four point edge over Trump, 45-41. When third party candidates Gary Johnson and the Green Party’s Jill Stein were added, Clinton’s edge dropped to two points, 40-38. Johnson captured 5 percent, while Stein earned 3 percent.

It is Brietbart, I know, but it is citing a Fox news and Quinnipiac poll.

You're right, they should switch up and just change views by the minute depending on what polling indicates.
