CM Punk is not a draw

I feel like his UFC run really hurt his image, and not because he lost. He left WWE because of part-timers taking main spots from workhorses, and that's what he did in the UFC. He doesn't feel anti-establishment anymore, and that's where he really thrives in storylines.

Punk is a hypocrite. An old man past his prime coming in and going over younger better workers.

I agree his proformance in the UFC really hurt his image. How can people take him seriously after doing so poorly?

Anyone who saw this guy throw kicks in WWE, knew he was going to be embarrassed in the UFC.

Russo got proven to be a good idea man, but needing a filter.
Only guy who brought this goofy theater sport some mainstream attention and iconic storylines - that they're still leeching off of - needed a filter? People still parrot this bullshit in 2022? And then what? He leaves and what did all these "filter people" do, besides driving the whole business into the ground? How's Vince's filtering been for the past 20 years?

And JFL at CM Punk. Him not being a draw - how is his a surprise to anyone?

Wow, you really are a casual, the filter shit and now this. Yes, one man was gonna nose up that dysfunctional, mismanaged Titanic that everyone said was heading off a cliff before Vinny even got there. Man, to see this simplistic cartoon logic still getting parroted in 2022 pretty much shows you why wrestling is such irrelevant garbage.

Oh and by the way - yes - Russo's middling Bash at the Beach with the Hulk Hogan fiasco is still a more iconic, more fun show than anything CM Punk has ever come close to delivering. Fooled all the marks at the time, hit that sweet "wait, is this for real?" mark that pro wrestling hasn't tasted since.

But whatever. You're already being punished by having no understanding of the history of the business and enjoying current day product, far be it foe me to pile on.

Lol at trying to denigrate the great @UberKneeOf209 by calling him a casual. Leave that stupid shit in the heavies where you belong

ur argument makes no sense. Uberknee is a casual for have the same opinion that the vast majority of hardcore wrestling fans have AND people with well respected experience in the industry like Cornette, Pritchard, Jericho, ect. This is one of the very few almost completely unanimously held opinions at this point.

also Russos writing was terrible in hindsight. Go back and watch 98. Most of the shit meanders and has no logical conclusion. Russo has had several opportunities leading writing on wrestling shows since leaving in 99 and they have all been catastrophic failures. He had a 2-3 year run where Vince McMahon was his filter. Russo himself has said that many times.

wwe has been wildly successful since russo has left. In fact they continued to grow in the early 2000s without russo. They storylines and writing got a lot better during that time.

And by the way it isn’t a bad thing or an insult to say that russo needed a filter or McMahon to work/ be successful. That’s the way it is for a lot of creative entertainment. Sometimes teams are actually better than the sum of their parts and there’s nothing wrong with that. That seems to be the case with russo.

Credit to russo- he did give every talent a storyline or feud. But russo had the benefit of an 1) extremely talented roster , 2) wrestlers being able to creatively adlib and have input, 3) being able to put on a very mature (not emotionally but content wise) oriented pg-13 show. I’ll say that russo was great a producing characters if he were responsible for most of the characters at that time- but I believe that talent and McMahon had just as much if not more to do with that.

seems like ur the one without history or understanding of the product. A guy that has a two - three year run and leaves yet the company continues to grow in success and was still as if not more entertaining (99-02) with better storylines. But you want to blame things for russo being gone ? The same guy who failed remarkably in every subsequent attempt. You seem to lack proper understanding of the history for me to continue to pile on.

The pinnacle of casualdom is a wrestling fan who hates on VinnyRu, as it entails complete and utter lack of understanding of what it takes to build characters and put a ratings based pro wrestling storyline together.

To casuals like you and that other dummy, it's of course high level science not to not mistake the message for the messenger cause the messenger says "bro" a lot, but to normal people who can listen, who are curious and want to know the truth - everything Russo has explained adds up. It always adds up and ages well.

Go join the torrent of maggots who deserve the product they have today. Go live your gaslit mark life in the lies from treasonous, backstabbing failures responsible for burying the industry to the level it is right now while shitting on the guy who nosed the whole industry up from it's clown days and brought it its highest ratings and most iconic moments that are referenced and homage'd to this very day. Your pro wrestling opinion is worthless.

Ur response is three paragraphs about the word casual. Then acting like your some sort of intellectual scholar (which is funny but I guess your not around enough to know why)

i think this place is more to your pace and capacity

Just ignore him.
He lost credibility when he attacked me for saying Russo in WCW was awful, by going on about the ratings and how it was already on the slide.
I think anyone that follows posting in these wrestling forums knows I dont give two fucks about ratings.
Just go look at Russo's storylines and ideas that happened in his WCW run.

And I was like fucking 12 back then, I didnt even know what a fucking rating was. I just remember being so upset and not enjoying it anymore when they started russos wcw run and it went to shit. Member Heel Goldberg with Russo and Eric?

such a good swerve, such good shit.

I bet this mother fucker thinks WCW Backstage Brawl was the pinnacle of wrestling gaming too

Cm Punk isn’t a draw now however back in summer of Punk in 2011 he was a draw his rivalry with John Cena was must see TV.
