Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo have both said CM Punk does bring in casual fans. It's looking like they are correct and people have pointed out viewership was dropping when Punk was the WWE champion.

Is CM Punk just a indie darling that a small portion of fans like or is he someone that gets people to watch shows and PPVs?
