Clay "The Carpenter" Guida returns this weekend

Clay Guida is pretty interesting. He's popular yet he fights incredibly boring.

I like him and cheer for him because his energy was over the top and because he had long hair. Long hair before man buns became extremely trendy. I had long hair back then as well and that's why I liked him.

But he's such an incredibly boring fighter. He jumps around like a bunny attempting capoeira and when he finally jumps in to strike with his short t-rex arms he just ends up getting tagged. After getting tagged over and over, he tries to win by pushing the opponent against the cage for a few rounds.

He's one of those guys that I feel lacks "it" and I'm amazed he's still around because I can't remember him ever winning. He obviously wins, I just can't remember it because it's so forgettable.

They have him fighting on the prelims.

Every few months a yellow belt of orange belt account that is fairly new will start a handful of threads about how awesome Guida is and how much of a fan favorite he is.
The comments made by the account give off a NutritionisKey type vibe where it comes across as either the fighter, someone from his camp. If not, then Guida has one of the most dedicated fans in the sport.

I have a love/hate relationship with Guida. He has made himself a fixture in the UFC over the last decade showing himself to be a very tough and gritty fighter with a lot of heart. That said, outside of solid grappling, he hasn't shown himself to have elite skills. He is a journeyman grinder who has overachieved, and although that may sound like a slam, I really respect him for it.

I feel like from a fan perspective the air has gone out of his career a bit in the last few years. I chalk it up to fan reaction to the Maynard fight, which was not only a bad fight, but happened right when fan frustration with point fighting was at an all-time high (a few months after the Condit-Diaz fight). Even though I agree with a lot of folks here that Guida's style can lead to uneventful fights, the guy has won fight of the night six or seven times.

I think it's a winnable fight for him for sure, gonna be very wrestle heavy and not that entertaining but it will still be cool to see him come back to LW.
