She was doing very well in the first 2 and half round in striking and grappling but starting to fade into the championship round. She said in the post fight conference she was the better technical fighter but she just got tired.

Do you think she can win if she fix her conditioning if a third fight ever happened ?

Winning till she lost, you saw it coming since she couldn't submit Joanna in the first two rounds.

She gassed out in the 1st fight too, she should have learned her lesson after that. I don't think her cardio is all that great, but at the same time Joanna was throwing a lot of front kicks to the stomach so I'm sure that didn't help Claudia's cardio either

Or Joanna would have beat her in the first rounds, too, if she hadn't been planning on actually being able to fight for 5 rounds.

But her most convincing round in the 1st fight was the 3rd round.

Yep, I called it back then that if they ever fought for a title she'd be a sitting duck come the championship rounds. All Joanna had to do was win one of the first three and not get finished and she'd take over. I would be seriously worried for Joanna going into a three-rounder but was confident when it came to a title fight. Still, Claudia made it a tougher first two than I thought with her success with her punches. The TD threat really gave her some openings in that arena early.

Joanna's cardio was jaw dropping. Like, how in the fuck could she whip out kicks and punches at that speed in rounds 4 and 5?! Inhuman. No wonder Claudia gassed.

Her skinny arms are aerodynamic

I don't know if her conditioning is fixable. Her gameplan is to grind out someone who has better cardio than her. I don't think she can out cardio JJ without losing a lot of her muscle mass, and at that point she wouldn't be strong enough to wrestlefuck her. If she wants to beat JJ, she needs to figure out how KO or submit her within 2 rounds.

It really was amazing to watch, she's a great athlete with a fighters mind.
A total boss.

Her energy faded because Joanna tired her out. That grappling was an absolute dog fight. Claudia truly earned those two rounds because Joanna made her fight for every single split second of control. It was gruelling. A war for control, strength and position. And Joanna made her fade because of it. She could then do her own thing. Only one of them could fight that way for more than ten minutes.

It depends on how much you think a fighter can change. Could any random heavyweight "fix" their strength issue and be as strong as Brock? How about, could anyone at WW just "fix" their karate/striking issue and destroy Stephen Thompson?

Eh she got some takedowns and laid on Joanna, but she was still obviously the much more tired fighter at the end. Claudia got 7 takedowns that fight and landed 5/7 strikes on the ground, she averaged 1 thrown strike per takedown and had 2 passes the entire fight. She really did nothing but lay on Joanna, even with the dominant position she didn't have the energy to capitalize

Sounds like it's a simple easy fix on paper right?
Everyone has a plan till they get hit. I would amend that to everyone has a plan till the cage door locks. Some fighters talk about their game plans and how it was implemented and some talk about how they threw it out the window.

you cant have wrestling heavy gameplan without superb cardio.

Some fighters just have shit cardio. Claudia is one of those fighters. I'm sure she trained her ass off for this fight but she still faded in the end.
