Cities: Skylines (No Relation To Cities XL)

Bummer! Hopefully they get that figured out soon.

I got a chance to play last night. Very intuitive, minimal hand holding. My city looks like ass but it's fun. Can't wait to get back on tonight.

Actually got it sorted on my own. The output_log.txt was citing a Steam initialization error, even though every other game I own launched just fine. So, I just moved my steamapps folder out of the main Steam directory and uninstalled/ reinstalled Steam before moving it back in.

Launched just fine after that and played for a few hours last night. The game's great fun and for $29.99 I hope more people get on board.

Purchased, dowloading... will play this evening.

Watching some tutorials on it. Tried to make a city and went broke before I even hooked up the electricity.

I've noticed starting small - really small - and then then working out is the best way. I did the same thing the first time trying to build a large area first.

I probably won't play tonight so I can get a game or two of Starships in. But I can already tell this game will eat up my nights like Prison Architect/Civ 5.

Win!

Loving the game so far. Much better than SimCity 5.

I can't figure out how to harvest resources such as trees, oil, coal, etc. though. Anyone figured this out?

Who will be the first to make Magnasanti in this game?

Nevermind I figured it out. You have to build Industrial Zones on top of the resource, create a district over the zone, then select the particular specialization you want. Then the harvesting, production, and distribution buildings will be built automatically. Hopefully they'll change this later on so you can places specific buildings.

That's amazing and hilarious.

I'm somewhat terrified thinking about that. A city with millions of people, 0 crime, 0 unemployment, completely educated? Hard to completely understand why a utopian society terrifies me...it just is.

Current population is capped at 1 million I believe.

Man I am a broke ass city and Ugly as hell. I got Power line everywhere. Cancer for everybody.

You don't need power lines everywhere, just one that connects your power source to the nearest buildings in your town, the energy will spread from building to building as long as they're within a certain radius.

You might need a secondary power line if you build an industrial district a bit far from your town, or to power drain pipes and water pumps.

What? I just need one to the closet building. I guess I still don't know what I am doing. I tried to make a circle sub division and all water tower kept saying they needed power. So i thought I had to run power lines to each one. I am gonna start over in a few days after I learn more but right now Circles Housing divisions are not the way to go. They look cool but are as functional as squares.

I had a good city going earlier. About 40,000 people with $18k income per week.

I went nuts with housing and forgot to build clinics. Everyone tweeted that they've been sick forever. Most of the town died; and on account of dying couldn't work or generate money, so the town went bankrupt. Time to go again.

delete your power lines as soon as you can because you city builds a network of power on its own

Game is pretty legit. Buildings are a bit repetitive but then I haven't hit Steam Workshop yet

My favourite things is dirt roads. I want to start a trailer park out in the wilderness. Hopefully they end up modding in a white trash district

Saw this on the Paradox forum:

Not gonna lie. Had a pretty decent laugh at this.

Great idea, though. I'm going to grab this when I get home tonight.

This game is what sim city should have been. I am having a bear of a time with my transportation structure though.

I can't get this right either, but I think I'm getting closer. Definitely have to think out my main avenues, and housing developments better. Minimizing the amount of intersections on the 6-lanes should help. I screwed up my last city by having two 6-lanes right next to each other, and then I couldn't build any bridges over them.

Plus they had a few roads that cut across both that made many, very small intersections that brought a small amount of traffic to a halt.

Tonight's plan is more planning up front and more beer for the inevitable fuckscapades.
