I can see it both ways. More than likely whoever wins between Miocic and Jones the belt is being vacated. Jones says he wants to retire, and in the slim chance Stipe beats him I guarantee he retires with the storybook ending to his career. So Sergei could wait it out if he wants, while Aspinall smashes someone else in 6 months, and then they fight for the title. Or they could fight sooner, and the winner could face either Spivak or Gane for the title, with an easy storyline for a quick rematch in the future.
 
Crazy that Gane got a title shot with that level of grappling. Just shows how weak HW is
 
Gane with just 1 leg kick from hell, injures Tom's glass knees lol, everyone is shitting on Gane as if he didn't put on arguably the best UFC HW fight of all time, or if he wasn't the No. 1 HW contender or the former interim champ or overcame pneumothorax, dude, does Aspinall even has same grappling as Jon tho?

Sergei is going to have to fight someone for that title in order to be champ, and it's not gonna be Jones or Stipe.

hes more fluid, has better footwork and far better hands than gane. I think he beats him on the feet. If it goes to the ground then there’s only 1 winner. My point is he doesn’t have to take gane down to win!
 
Wow people are underestimating Gane big time. He's going to be better, more well rounded fighter by the time he's back in the cage.

You are probably right.
There is just a big lack of contenders, so Aspinall and Sergei have to fight for a title.
Not eliminate each other in smaller fights, they are both too good and promising.

PS. Just like it was a dumb idea to make Dariush fight Charles.
Dariusz vs Mach would be far more interesting than Oliveira 2

Agreed. Styles make fights, I think Benny would have had a good shot against Islam. Whether he'd have kept the belt for long is another question, but it would have been a cool moment to see him try and do it.
 
Gane is the most lopsided fighter since Lesnar. Although some might not know that he does have 3 wins by sub early in his career. Still he is basically outstanding striking with atrocious grappling, while Lesnar was outstanding takedowns and GnP with atrocious striking.

If you can put Gane on his back and have even a mediocre ground game yourself you win. In fact Ngannou swept him lol. Keeping it standing no one can really hang with him technically, although a high level KO artist like Pav could possibly just ride out the outpointing for a while until he can catch Gane with a single big shot that either knocks him out, or stuns him enough that he can be finished with a flurry. Easier said than done though, Gane makes very few mistakes standing.

I'm sure he's been working on it intensively, but unless Ciryl improves his grappling radically Tom won't mess around on the feet he will just take him down and sub him rather quickly. If I were Gane's team Tom is one of the last opponents I would be looking at.
 
Jon Jones got asked to do word association for fighters and when they said Gane he said “soccer player”.

That was 100% correct. Gane is just an elite athlete, but not really an elite fighter. Tom is actually an elite fighter with a real well rounded skill set. He would sub him within 1.

Gane is built for dunk contests and juggling soccer balls. Tom, Jones, Pav, etc. are built for war. Big difference.
 
Sounds like a good call. We will definitely learn whether or not Gane has been getting the right training since the Jones fight. If not...well then we have the answers we need on him. If he has, could be as good of a HW fight as you could possibly make. Winner will probably go into a vacant title fight
