Chris Curtis should have won ref missed accidental headbutt

A bit presumptuous saying it should’ve been a win for Curtis. Could be a draw or loss. Ref should have paused action but missed it so Curtis got a bad call but alternative outcomes are hard to predict. A neutral round as pseudo no contest would be ok. A NC is arguable but they rarely award. Curtis insults to his opponent Kelvin very poor form. UFC not likely going to sympathize with him much do to his insults. UFC , Dana sometimes recognizes these rough luck situations and do not hold it against a fighter.

An accidental foul doesn't give the other fighter the round automatically. At worst this is a draw and merits a rematch. That's only going to go much worse for Chris though. Kelvin was coming back from a long lay off and multiple injuries. He'll have confidence from his win, confidence in his new camp, and he'll have momentum. How well do you think that goes for Chris? He couldn't beat Kelvin decisively on his worst day. If we're all playing hypotheticals, this is the one I choose to roll with.

The video is a bit frustrating, he's rewording the exact same few points endlessly, and only shows the actual clip once (admittedly, I didn't make it to the very end), where you kinda don't see shit.

But unintentional clash of heads happen, and you can't just substract the sequences that follow and do a re-judging weeks after. If we did that with every controversial fight (about every other fight, it seems), MMA would become a shitshow (well even more).

I guess the ref could've stopped the fight, leading to a NC, like it happens sometimes, etc etc. But the fact that the fight went the distance shows that both fighters were still able to fight, and people, and the UFC, don't want to see fights stopped at the first opportunity, it benefits no-one.

It does sucks for Curtis if, in an imaginary world, he would have won had the clash of head not happened (which we don't know for sure), but that's how it is.

It happens and unfortunately affects outcome of fights. Eyepokes, headbutts, freak injurys, they have always happened and will keep on happening.
In wrestling you can protest, like if the ref misses it but your corner sees it they pause the action and do a video-review. Im sceptical of it working in MMA, if a fouls leds to a knockdown, GnP.. But it should work, since the rules are there to be followed. Or you should do like Matt Hughes:

No Headbutt Chris. Add him to the list:
  • Sea-Level Cain
  • Motivated BJ
  • Chuck Liddell with that look in his eye
  • Islam with Khabib in his corner

Cris is frustrating. One of the best boxers in the UFC but has a hard time getting close.
