Chito Vera was Exposed?

I am thankful we no longer have to try and perform mental gymnastics to accept Marlon Vera as a top contender. He's a mid tier brawler who sometimes has fun fights. How the FUCK any judge gave him that fight is mind blowing. Sandhagen, an actual top bantamweight, absolutely tooled him.
I was so very proud of Corey.
He has fought the best.
Would love to see him vs O'Malley.

If you watched Pedro back in the day, he like Vera could let a fight get away from him, by being overly tentative and turning a fight into a staring contest, while having the ability to turn a fight with a single shot. Both him and Vera from a fan standpoint where extremely frustrating to watch as a fan.
We are old to remember this

What’s the right word to apply here?
Exposed? Dominated? Outclassed? All the above?

I feel like I was well aware of Chito’s shortcomings especially as a big fan of his.
Full credit to Cory Sandhagen for pressuring Chito and exposing all those weakness.
First time I’ve seen all those problems in Chito’s game being showcased in harmony in one fight.
I thought a 5 round fight would work in favour of Chito’s “slow start” style but it’s clear he’s no tactician.
Am I being too hard on him? Can he/will he fix the holes in his game?

I don’t really think we need to say anything dramatic about this fight. Everyone has seen him losing to guys like Font and Cruz until he landed some big shots. There was always going to be a fight (or multiple fights) in which he never found that shot and lost. Kinda like Ortega. It doesn’t expose anything new when those guys don’t find the finish, it’s an outcome that’s always on the table for guys like that.

I hope Chito gets a favorable matchup for his next fight. Actually Yan vs Chito sounds fun, both guys are excellent but a little inactive at time. Chito will make Yan fight.

I think it was a combination of Sandhagen just being better than him, but also him having an off night.

I expected Sand to be a step ahead standing, at least early.

If there was one thing that was glaring it was the bad TDD.

If I’m Vera’s coaches that what I would be most worried about. If he fights anyone with decent takedowns in the next year they’re gonna be all over that.

It was hard to watch him underperform, but great to see Sandhagen shine. Watching Chito stay bottled up, then pull the trigger with 10 seconds left in the fight was bizarre.

Based on the polls, I think a lot of people were shocked at how lopsided it was.

I like a lot of what Chito does, but he has a problem: he has rather slow hands for the weight class and because of this, is wary of attempting counters.

It's actually very smart of him to acknowledge this weakness and avoid rolling the dice in exchanges. Problem is, an opponent with the right skillset can use this to control/shut down his offense. Sandhagen and his team had obviously dialed in on this tendency. Later in the fight, I heard Cory's cornerman bring it up, calling on him to 'overload' Chito with activity.

I knew that Sandhagen would outpoint Vera with ease because he has the perfect skillset to do so: he is mobile, rangy, quick, uses a good variety of attacks and is constantly feinting. He also did a great job shutting down the one technique that Vera relies on even as he is reluctant to exchange: his low kick. Sandhagen mostly neutralised it by continuously switching stances and moving in, out, laterally.

As I said, I like Vera as a fighter and was happy to see him climb the ranks. However, I feel that this is the end of the line for him, as far as title aspirations. There are too many ways to beat him and the top guys all have what it takes to do it. As much as I hate O'Malley, he should be the favorite in the rematch as well, and that will probably be the go-to fight for Dana once O'Malley loses and the UFC is looking to rehabilitate his status as a contender.

I've said all along that Chito is a mediocre fighter who became massively overrated because of his win over O'Malley which was due to a fluke injury.

He did not become rated at all after that fight. Chito got people’s attention when got the highlight reel knockout of Edgar, battered Font and flattened Cruz. He was always pedestrian in terms of skills and athleticism, but flashing that kind of power is what made people interested.

Let’s change the name of this thread to, “Underdog Loses; Sherdoggers Sprain Elbows Patting Selves on Back for Agreeing with Oddsmakers”

To me it looked as though one guy was extremely confident and the other guy did a lot of talking about being confident.

Not exposed but revealed

You got to take a lead on him but not be all out

Font edgar and cruz did too much and it gassed em out in reality edgar going to 135 was awful he looked so weak a older fighter cutting more weight never works out

Cruz was on his way to a close decision but his takedowns suck and he moves to much with his hands down a change in his style for a minute here and there and he'd been ok

Chito had a bad night, it happens. He's really good

He has a very bad night. Happens. Not exposed as he was not being himself.
