Chito Vera calls for No. 1 contender bout with Petr Yan

135 is becoming a bit convoluted. Aldo, TJ, Chito, Yan are all 1 big win away from being deserving of a title shot. Cejudo is also back. Then Merab & and Yadong are 2 big wins away.

Hopefully Sterling defends vs either Aldo or TJ in August. Get this division moving as more and more young contenders emerge.

im cool with it but Yan is the worst match up for Chito. Yan isnt a wild volume striker who Chito can weather.

I like Marlon for the most part, but I think Yan would end up flattening him before the final bell. I just don't think Chito is quite on Yan, Sterling or Aldo's level right now.

Both guys start slow so it should be a fire work show by the 2nd round

I'm picking Yan but Chito is a live dog.

I still feel pretty confident Yan is one of the absolute best in the division, effectively equal with Sterling right now. Really hard to pick against Yan.

This would be an outstanding fight and Cruz doesn't belong in a title eliminator - this makes the most sense for the division.
Cruz does not belong anywhere near a title now. BW has passed him by a mile. Hopefully we get to see him knocked out before his career ends.

Hmmmm, in a 3 rounder this might be a hard fight to pick since Yan is a slow starter.
If someone in the UFC books Vera vs Yan for 3 rounds he should be fired immediately.

chito is a slow starter aswell !!

Yan lost caz he got grapplefucked ….. chito won’t grapplefucked him

let’s not forget Yan has the best hands in the division …. He’ll piece chito up … chitos only hood would be to leg kick him to death - which won’t happen

I like the matchup though - it makes sense - let’s run it !

As he edges closer to title contention, Marlon Vera is eyeing a former champion next.

Vera (21-7-1 MMA, 11-6 UFC) has won his past three in a row, most recently battering Rob Font in his first UFC headliner in April. Following his win, Vera wanted to run things back with Jose Aldo, who defeated him by unanimous decision in December 2020.

But “Chito” has now turned his attention to former bantamweight champion Petr Yan (16-3 MMA, 8-2 UFC), who’s coming off his second consecutive loss to champ Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273 in March.

“We’re literally one win away from fighting for that belt, so I hope we get it done with Yan,” Vera said in an interview with The Schmo. “I think that’s the path to the belt, No. 1 contender. We kick his ass, and we move forward.”

He continued, “I stop Yan, and I get a title shot.”

Vera also had previously called out another ex-champ in Dominick Cruz, but after Yan himself expressed interest in fighting him, Vera is happy to oblige to his callout.

“Dominick is an old story for me,” Vera said. “He didn’t want to do it. He don’t want the smoke. We’ll move forward. Yan wants it. He’ll get it.”

MUAY THAI MADNESS!
Looks like a One FC scrap in the best way possible! Chito fights like a 145er in many ways. Similar power and slickness to featherweight top dogs but less output and technical variety than Yan & most 35ers. Yans upright style may open up the Muay Thai strikes of Vera but Yans toolbox (offense & defense) is likely to give him fits finding range and openings. Regardless, there is no way this fight doesn’t play out interestingly and teach us a little more than what we think we know about MMA.

BOOK IT

Wouldn't mind it, a durable guy like Chito eating endless shots by Yan, yeah definitely would watch

Unlike Font, yan wont gas. I see yan being too fast. Chito is hittable, and it only takes 1.

Eventually Yan catches him with something wild and goes to sleep but it would be a fun fight.

Poor chito so confused he is not one fight from the belt. He's still minimum 2 fights away.
