I got a ton in my fridge right now..How bad is it for you? Most chinese are small, not very fat and have a long life expectancy. Is their foods very fattening? OR a good healthy meal?

I got alot of veggie/beef/chicken/shrimp mixtures.
chicken balls
rice
etc..

typical chinese restaurant stuff..i know the food is quite salty..but how bad is it for you? anyone know..im craving some right now, but I don't know if I should just throw it all out or finish it off day by day..I got alot!

A lot of the sauces have a lot of oil and sugar and/or corn syrup in them. Most Chinese food that you get in restaurants is not very healthy.

The diet of an average Chinese citizen is much different than the food offered at the majority of Chinese restaraunts in the US.

the chinese food that alright to eat is probably the stuff you wont want.......stick to the plain steamed stuff with no sauce....steamed brocolli and chicken/shrimp

yeah I thought the sauces they marinate the veggies and meats in were not very good for you..damn it..i guess im going to chuck it all out :( :(..

is shrimp a good healthy meat? im thinking of buying a big package to mix in with my veggies and what not.

as someone who has backpacked around all of Taiwan, yeah Wyatt is right, the food at resteraunts in western countries is SO vastly different to what a normal chinese/taiwanese person eats over there. I've eaten meals at small family owned places (where the family cooks downstairs, live upstairs, and the food is much better than crap you'd get in most western societies 'chinese restraunts'

its all about smart choices though.

From what I've read, shrimp is a great source of protein

shrimp is also very high in cholesterol, so not exactly an ideal meat...

...but I'm not a big fan of wasting food...throwing good food away just cause it might not be ideally healthy for you is one of the bad things about American affluence...

just eat it with lots of rice and make sure you drink plenty of water to offset some of that sodium

your right, but to say it's not ideal is going a bit far, you'd have to eat a hell of alot of prawns to make any difference to your cholesterol levels, i personally think the benefits outweigh the cholesterol factor esp. consumed in moderation. Shrimp has vitamins B1 B2 B6 B12 & vitamin E, calcium, iodine, iron, potassium, zic & is a good source of omega 3. I LOVE MY PRAWNS AND I'LL BE DAMNED IF ANYONE'S GOING TO RUIN IT FOR ME!!!! lol

Chinese food made in the west is horrible for you. I work out with a few Asian guys and although they love it none of them touch the stuff.

Very high in Slat, always fried in oil and it too hard to quality control. My advice is clean out your fridge and start eating clean. Better yet, buy a rice cooker, a steamer and start making it yourself.

You have much more control as to what goes in it and you can monitor your portion control by only making only what you should be eating. If you are trying to obtain certain fitness goals leftovers can be the devil.

...unless you gorge on 5 lbs of low quality shrimp at a Vegas buffet that will give you the runs for 24 hrs...

...of course it's unfortunate that two of my favorite ways of cooking and enjoying shrimp is to a) slowly saute them in a stick or two of butter and plenty of garlic, or b) wrap them in bacon and grill to a crisp, are fit only for a cheat day for someone training seriously...maybe I should post the recipes to the sticky recipe thread, unless I already did...:icon_chee

that is correct, also believe it or not Mexican food is worse than Chinese in the fast food department, can't see how as when I eat Chinese I feel like I gained 2 pounds almost instantly:icon_conf

If people in China ate like US Chinese places cook, they'd be noticeably heavier. It's very unhealthy.

I've seen US Chinese places say 'Chinese food is healthy, Chinese people live long', etc. Yeah, but food in China is unlike the crap you serve.

It tastes good but stay away!

Point taken and whole heartedly agree, i wouldnt go near that shit, i only eat fresh, tryed frozen a couple of times that wasnt too bad, but i still get paranoid about food poisoning and shit with the frozen ones

AAAAAAWWWWWWWW.........Prawns+Butter+Garlic = Heaven, esp. if you throw in a six pack of good beer and a game of footy on the telly

Will have to give the bacon one a crack too that sounds awesome and yeah i agree that they they are a for eating every now and then (i couldnt afford to eat them regularly even if i chose to)

^^^ just make sure before you wrap the shrimp with the bacon, you want to cook the bacon maybe half-way to render some of the fat (before it gets crispy)...but let it cool off a bit cuz bacon fat can be burny!

...and then skewer and BBQ!

btw, I don't even think I've had un-frozen shrimp before...the frozen kind that comes in a block seems just fine to me...I just never eat shrimp that is sold as cooked...

mmmmm, with some GOOD french bread baguettes...now THAT'S one hell of a cheat day!

Anyone else notice the trend of US American teen girls of Asian descent being much heavier than those from countries in Asia? The Chinese food served in most western restaurants is horrible. Also it's funny that the prices for steamed chicken with steamed brocolli is much more expensive than fried chicken with a side of french fries and a can of soda.

2nd gen Asians are also much bigger and taller too...result of hormones used in the raising of livestock...

i always stuff myself going to a chinese restaurant but then find myself hungry again leaving 20 minutes later

Alot of the chinese oils are PACKED with sodium.
