Does the benefit of having thinner legs in making weight outweigh probable reduced strength?
What use are bulky legs in MMA?
Would Bones make 205 were his legs more "compatible" with his upper body?
Everyone likes to say Anderson is a large 185er although he cuts weight easily and doesn't look much different on fight day. Maybe that's because people don't take his legs into account?
What about Michael Page, a 6'3" welterweight?
Can you think of a good HW with thing legs?

Anderson Silva isn't really someone I'd refer to when talking about the benefits of skinny legs.

Look at the type of kicks Jones does too. Usually push kicks, he knows if he wraps them around a shin his leg will probably snap. It's smart.

But when your reach is probably higher than the opponents kicking range you don't have to kick much anyhow. Especially when you hold your hands out with fingers stretched like Jones loves.

There aren't many kick finishes in the UFC compared to arm finishes. I suspect there is a reason for it besides bad kickboxers.

No, Jonathan would not be able to make 205 if he didn't have chicken legs.

Of course they are, haven't you seen how Van Damme used a chicken leg in "Sudden Death" on the mascot?

One time I broke a chicken leg and was instinctively like "sorry Anderson"

Anderson was in the cage under 200lbs a few times according to one of his coaches. He was never one of the MWs who cut the most. Guys like Chael and The Chris cut much more. Hell, Hendricks cut to 170 from around 200.

Nah, the thing about Silva and Bones being "big" for their divisions was always 97% hater/racist horseshit. Bones cuts an average amount for 205 and Silva an average, maybe even smaller amount for 185.

Neither guy ever even came close to missing weight.

at one time Anderson was the Shooto 170 lb champ (when he beat MACH) so yeah, dude has always been small for the 185 division.

IMO guys with tree trunks as leg have better knockout power, however Silva had it with skinny legs too, so I dunno.

I don't think any amount of leg muscles would have prevented that break.

That was caused from a perfect bone on bone check and Anderson throwing it hard has hell.

Not to say Silva didn't have power, but it was more about his absolutely perfect placement of strikes. I don't remember him flatlining a lot of guys with huge power shots.

Interesting theory.

Not MMA but Klitschko

Tree trunk legs help generate massive power.Just look at ex KO artist boxer David Tua's legs..

If you're tall it definitely doesn't behoove you to have extra weight in your legs come weigh-in time.
