I just noticed that there are not that many covering it.
He made quite an impact.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dokka_Umarov

Umarov's forces have claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks, including suicide bombings that killed 37 people at a Moscow airport in 2011 and 40 on the Moscow subway in 2010

As vice-president, Umarov was automatically elevated to the position as supreme leader of the ChRI following the death of President of Ichkeria Sheikh Abdul-Halim Sadulayev on June 17, 2006. Having become president, Umarov also held such posts as the head of the State Defense Council; Amir (commander) of the Madzhlis Shura of the Caucasus; Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria; and finally, Amir of the Mujahideen of the Caucasus. In his first published comments since assuming the role of president, Umarov vowed to expand the conflict to "many regions of Russia", praised his predecessor Sadulayev, indicated that a special unit was being formed to fight Chechnya's "most odious traitors" (a remark believed to refer to the present federal Chechen administration) and stressed that the Chechen rebels would attack only military and police targets within Russia, including in the newly declared Urals and Volga Region Fronts.

Is there a right or wrong in this conflict?

I don't fully understand the long standing conflict between the Checknya Rebel's and Russia. I only know it's ugly.

Maybe someone can provide a some history.

Again?! Kadyrov said they killed him about 2 years ago, and one year after that.

In the top link Al Jazeera says:

The Kavkaz Centre website issued an obituary, calling Umarov a martyr who had "given 20 years of his life to the Jihad".
It did not say when or how he had died, but the simultaneous release of a video address by a fighter introducing himself as Umarov's replacement indicated it may have been some time ago.
A bearded man, identified as Ali Abu Mukhammad, says in the video posted on You Tube that he was asked to take Umarov's place.
"I am declaring that I am taking on this responsibility," he said.

And

But Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who is backed by Moscow, wrote on his Instagram microblog: "The terrorist mouthpiece reports that Doku Umarov is dead!"

"Umarov was killed in a security operation, which I wrote about earlier ... Now it is confirmed by the rats themselves," he wrote.

Chechen's themselves are confirming it this time.

There was some talk a while back that Putin deliberately wanted the Olympics in Sochi and the Caucasus region specifically as a back door means of getting other countries to turn over and share intelligence in the name of keeping athletes and tourists safe. If true, this fucker's on another level. That's some Dr. Doom/Lex Luthor/Kingpin shit right there.

One time when the War Room's "good" posts aren't inappropriate.

Probably it happened a quite time ago. No dates, no details. Ussualy Kavkaz Center are very colorfull about one their brothers becoming a shahid, but not this time.

He won't be missed by me. If he had beef with Russians, there were plenty of military and governmental targets he could pick. Instead he chose to bomb civilians, which rightly earns him terrorist status.

So blowing up politicians and police stations would make him a righteous protester as long as he avoids civilians?

That's pretty fucking morbid.

They want independence from Russia but Russia don't want to give it because of their resources. Russia have been keeping Chechnya in the dark ages, levelling cities and basically been committing genocide for a while now. These guys are different from the Taliban and other members of the league of funny hats, their goal is separation from Russia. After 9/11 happened Russia lumped them in with the Taliban and used the war on terror to justify their genocidal operation. Prez Bush even gave the mass murders his seal of approval. People get upset when these guys attack a school, yet don't bat an eye when Russia blows up a school every single day in Chechnya. People just follow whatever narrative the media spins, that's why people don't give a shit. With Russia once again coming back into the narrative it's only a matter of time before it comes full circle. Entire cities have been levelled, there is no running water and Putin basically has the entire place blockaded. The place is under siege and they're just waiting for the natives to die.

Another funny parallel with China is that they did the exact same thing to to crush separatist movements in there too. So the UK and USA aren't the only countries who exaggerated a threat to reinforce their totalitarian regimes.

Is he like dead, or is he like "Bin Laden" dead?

Chechnya?? Grozniy looks like Las Vegas, and Chechens are free to move in and out of Chechnya.

And yes Russians were brutal in Chechnya, but its in no way excuses attacks on civilians in Russia.

Now of course outside of grozniy its looks like shit, but its in not better or worse than russian villages. Chechens are fine now. I Dagestan on the other hand there are lot of explosions that are not shown on the news, but they are done by Islamic groups.

No or Kind of, Chechens are the one who was defending their homes, and the Russian were "evil" invaders, that killed lot of civilians.

But in time they went full retarded, and started doing the same, only more on purpose, since they specifically was targeting civilians, terror 101. + radical Islam started to play a major role.

At least he would have been considered a resistance rebel instead of a terrorist in my book. When your homeland is under perceived occupation, the occupational force are legitimate targets. He went full retard and bombed civilians instead.

Definitely on a roll.
