Charlie Radtke Apologizes for Using Homophobic Slur in Post-Fight Interview at UFC 293

honestly tho after a fight people are liable to say anything and he probably really regretted it

Pretty much.

It doesn't even have to be a politics thing, he could've simply felt really fucking embarrassed.

Do it. Show me how it’s done. Say it one time here on sherdog and don’t walk it back lol. If you know good and damn well if you said that on sherdog you would be scrambling to delete or edit. So how the hell would you not walk it back if it could effect your bread. Please explain this lol

These modern words that have taken the -phobic suffix are a complete abuse of language, a phobia is an irrational fear of something such as arachnophobia or agoraphobia.
As a suffix, it's extreme or irrational fear or dislike of a specified thing or group.

Do a few moments of fact checking about the differences in meaning between phobia as a noun and -phobia as a suffix before you accuse others of not knowing what it means.

So basically you can say anything in the heat of the moment and the UFC won't do anything about it.

Why is the word :eek::eek:ot so awful? Dont they hold events in Abu Dhabi where homosexual acts are still illegal?

Is anyone actually offended by "bad" language after watching men try to inflict as much damage to each other as possible? Its so stupid to me.
It’s nonsense. That word is an insult to anyone it is hurled at not just of a certain persuasion. If a straight man gets angry when you call him a fa-goat and a gay man gets angry if you call him a fa-goat then how is it much else but an insult?

One of Strickland's coaches said "cocksucker" between rounds. at first I thought that the articles about this and had a hard time comprehending it until I realized it was about another incident lol.

Anyway people get excited. Not a word I use to insult people because I like cocksuckers. I mean why is cocksucker even an insult? obviously I get it's an anti-gay slur with no place in civilized society but if you really just think about the word it doesn't make sense. we want more people in the world sucking cocks not fewer.

It's the same with the word "blow job" in the United States. Tough guys call other guys a blow job and I'm like what don't you like about blow jobs? have you ever had one?

Never apologise for shit like this. Apologising only emboldens the mob of lefty tossers, because now you’ve admitted weakness. Now they know they have one over you, and they’re just going to escalate things, because that’s what women and men who think they’re women do. They’re bitches. Should have doubled down and told them to fuck themselves. Bitches bow to strength, not weakness.

Pretty much.

He wasn't. He clearly uses it in his everyday language as a slur, and I'd wager that he doesn't think all that highly of gay people. He was apologizing on behalf of his bank account.

The tryna spin it to make you look like you have a disease if you don't agree with the LGBT lifestyle.

Hence I got these dubs. Someone was a young and said a fighter is jeer phobic, I thought the guy overacted and said he was queer, and then... Dubs.

In this case the fighters apologised anyways so it's ok.

I mean Jesus said to not call each other "maggots" and those similar words. So the apology is good.

Hero, or Hate Crime?

Probably because you are not gay nor have gay kids.

If u ever have a gay kid, maybe then you wont find it so stupid when they get bullied.

Charlie Radtke Apologizes for Using Homophobic Slur in Post-Fight Interview at UFC 293

Charlie Radtke was a relative unknown heading into UFC 293, but that likely changed following his post-fight interview.

After relying on cage control to outpoint local favorite Mike Mathetha in a largely forgettable welterweight bout at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on Saturday night, Radtke used a homophobic slur to address those in attendance while speaking with UFC commentator Daniel Cormier.

“It felt great. So f—k all you f--gots in the fu--ing crowd,” Radtke said. “Come down and get some you pu--y ass b—ches.”

That led to Radtke getting much more attention than he otherwise would have for a fight that wasn’t especially memorable. The 33-year-old known as “Chuck Buffalo” would later apologize for his remarks in a statement on social media.

Radtke wasn’t the only one to use that slur at UFC 293, however. Later in the evening, Manel Kape called the City Kickboxing team “a bunch of f——s” following his victory over Felipe dos Santos in a flyweight bout on the main card. Kape’s rant was directed primarily at Kai Kara-France, who pulled out of the fight against the former Rizin champ after suffering a concussion in training.

At the post-fight press conference, Kape apologized for his words.

"I am sorry for that, it was emotional, during the interviews we are all emotional and we say things that we didn't want to say, so for those who feel bad about that, I apologize,” he said.

UFC president Dana White also addressed the remarks of both Radtke and Kape during his session with the media.

“That was flying around a little bit tonight. I think these guys get a little excited and you make bad mistakes,” White said. “Radtke did the same thing and you know me, we didn’t run over and say, you’d better apologize.’ He did that on his own. When he got backstage, he was embarrassed, he got caught up in the moment… He got emotional and we make mistakes.

It's bad enough that Radtke and Kape used the slur in the first place, but Dana's "they apologized, take it or leave it" is just as bad if not worse. I understand that he's trying to smooth things over/do damage control, but in any other professional sport, there would be a well-thought out official statement and actual consequences* instead.

*Consequences - I'm not trying to "cancel" these fighters or have the UFC/commission take what little money they make. I think a well-planned education program for all the fighters, maybe some outreach/community service would go a long way - so that both the fighters and fans understand why these words matter and hopefully learn to be better.

I do hope something like this happens, but I'm not holding my breath. Under Dana, UFC's extent of committment to equality / inclusivity consists of selling rainbow-colored merchandise in June.

Nobody is going through escalate things with Charlie Radtke. He either felt bad and apologised or someone at the UFC told him it'd be a good idea to apologise.
