Charles Oliveira's Reactive Takedowns

What is this new narrative? Who avoided him?

He's been fed inferior fighters because he mentally checks out when he faces elite ones. The UFC was doing him a favor by letting him string up some wins to boost his confidence.

Oliveira is a fighter with an elite skill set. Nobody has ever questioned that. He just doesn't seem to have the mental fortitude get by the very upper echelon. Who knows? Maybe now he's gotten over it and will show up against Tony.

You people need to stop with this, "He was being ducked and unfairly fed people under his level to keep him down" BS. He isn't underrated or underappreciated. He is who he is.

{<huh}

He has lost every time he faced a step up in competition. He lost to Felder, Pettis, Holloway, Ricardo Lamas, Cowboy, Frankie Edgar, even Cub Swanson

He can only sustain winning streaks against guys on the verge of retirement, like Clay Guida, Jim Miller, Nik Lentz

His best win is Kevin no-Heart

I am not saying he can't beat Ferguson, because Ferguson is one loss away from being a Bellator prospect due to his age and mileage, but to say he has been avoided or has not been giving top competition is a farce

Sorry I had to.
If you actually watched Oliveira past 7 fights after he's losing to Felder, he began to change his fighting style a lot, especially his standup.

He began getting that 7 fight streak finishes after he changed his camp/team in 2018.

And Do Bronx has been fighting in UFC since 2010, 10 years in the roster, more veteran than Tony is and imo his game is keep getting better.

The "Narrative" is my own... Not one top 10 fighter ... Not Dana has mentioned Charles Olivera out loud for the last 18 months... Until now.

Charles had earned a top guy... His streak is long... He has made weight every time at 155. He has great and exciting finishes during his run...

So yeah.. It looks to me like he has been overlooked or avoided.... as far as the narrative goes, I have not heard many people saying this... So maybe I'm biased a bit for Charles... But hey.. I love this fight and I dig Tony as well... Who doesn't like this scrap Bro?
Myself and others have pointed out in many of Oliveira 2.0 threads that this isn't his first rodeo with a top 5 opponent. He's been around a looong time, he's proven time and time again he can beat anyone outside the top 10, but also proven on way too many occasions that he will do his favourite lawn chair impression with ANYONE in the top 5. Swanson, Pettis, Felder, Edgar, Lamas, Cerrone....that's 6 failed fights at top 5 opponents over a decade.

Like always, he's worked his way back up, and the he's looked good doing so. Which isn't surprising -- dude is a good fighter. But this will be his 7th try at getting a win in the top 5, and it's against a stylistically bad match up for him given Tony is a savage, has nasty chokes (for such a good choke artist himself, Oliveira gets choked a lot), is wild on the feet with relentless pressure (Oliveira seems only comfortable inflicting the savagery, not wearing any), and literally doesn't get tired (a key component in a few of his last big wins).

I just can't see him accomplishing on his 7th try that he failed on the first 6. Tony is arguably the toughest opponent he's faced to date.

But you are right, it's an awesome scrap nonetheless, and a good fight for both guys at this point.

if oliveira has any sense, he will take ferguson down and look to take his back. i could see him choking tony unconscious with a RNC. if he gets on top of tony, there's a very good chance he makes ferguson look foolish on the mat. i'll certainly be rooting for him.

but it's hard to imagine him actually doing it, because he seems to lose all the really important fights. on the other hand, ferguson did take a hellacious beating in his last fight, and seems to be training without a proper team... so we have no clue what state he's in right now. it's a coin toss fight.

that's not much of a breakdown in that video, though.

I like these two guys so much. But DuBronx has been avoided and fed inferior fighters for too loong.

Olivera absolutely deserves an elite fighter like Tony, and I would not be surprised at all by an Olivera victory where he can demand that #1 contender ranking (after the next title bout)

If the title is vacated the winner of this fight should be half of the card for the new belt.

I suspect Dana will throw a belt at Conner/Dustin winner before it's all said and done... Let the winner of this fight have them and quick.

Dana and anybody including you should have winner of Dustin/Conor fighting for the belt.

Seriously Charles is set to fight TONY FERGUSON off the merits of absolutely fuckin no one. He has a long win streak that holds no valuable names except a damaged goods Kevin lee. His previous relevant opponent was Paul felder who killed him.

Dustin yes... Conor ?

I mean It is going to be a great scrap... Conor is a big media draw for sure.

But Instagram victory does not equate to victory in a Cage, which Conor has very little of at 155.

Conor has not earned a title shot... If one is gifted to him, I'ma watch the fight and enjoy what Conor does in the cage, (while rooting for Dustin)...

As I've mentioned... I suspect Khabib will be "vacated" in time for Dustin v Conor to fight for the vacant slot... OK fine. I won't really complain because the division is keeping busy and the fighters are fighting...

When the division is busy, things sort themselves out in the cage.... Tony v Olivera winner can have a crack at whoever wins.

not right now, but if he beats dustin, it's fair that he fight for the belt against tge winner of tony vs oliveira..

Hey... I'm fine with that too.

I think as long as Lightweight top 10 can stay busy, the world is a better place and we will be massively entertained.... If they all fight, a champion will arise, get knocked off, and another.... All for our entertainment... If Conor wants to get busy and fight regularly,,, great, his fights are fun to watch win or lose. Same with Charles... No snoozers and he has earned a crack at a couple top guys again.

now that charles hit a wall at 55 went down to 45 it seems he is now gotten some momentum

and looks really good at 55. his body has matured, and his skills are better than ever.

i still think tony will be too much for him though. but cannot count the bronx out.

i am actually bummed i will be missing the ufc tonight. usually don't care, but

tony always gives it his all, and the title fight should be fire.

I dont think they will make Dustin VS Conor a tittle fight, tbh.

What I'm saying is that whoever wins that match up deserves to fight for the tittle.

Reasonable to me too I suppose. Especially since Conor agreed to go @ 155. If he did this at welterweight it would be different.

I love oliveira but you're absolutely right. I think Ferguson might be too big of a test for him. I would have loved him to fight Felder again instead
