Charles Oliveira didn't make weight because he became too big.

he missed weight 4x at FW after coming down from LW, his persistency to keep trying is evident that he enjoys having a size advantage over his opponents.

Agreed

But there is only so much he can cut at that weight. A HW could do 30lbs no issue really but he is likely doing 15lbs max but that is a lot of his total mass compared to 30lbs of a 295lb guy or 25lbs from a 290lb guy

Your mom is a weight bully

160-165 division would be perfect for Charles

So he's a weight bully for not fighting in a division that doesn't even exist in the ufc?
<mma3>
160-165 division would be ideal for him considering that hes weighed in at 159 previously. He also wouldnt have to worry about losing his belt over a measily .5lbs if he fought at that weight instead.

Is there a 160-165lb division in the UFC?

Multiple fighters reported scale issues and Charles swore on his daughter's life that the scale read 155 when he stepped on it the night before

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt

Its likely that there was an issue but that didnt stop Gaethje, Rose or Carla from making weight without any issue.

Its more likely that Charles is a massive LW that had a lot of trouble shedding .5 lbs.

The Association of Boxing Commissions authorized the 165 and 175 weight classes years ago.

UFC could easily create a 165 lb division and move the WW limit up five pounds.

Given how eager they are to have title fights headlining every single PPV and the fact that they hand out interim belts like candy, I don't understand why they're so against the idea.

Should he just fight at 170 instead and be victim to the WW weight bullies just to keep you happy?
He might have no choice. Considering the difficulty that he had dropping the last .5 pounds, there is a high likelihood that he misses weight again.

Shedding half a pound in an hour when you're already completely drained isn't exactly easy, whereas it probably wouldn't have been an issue if he had seen he was still over the night before.

Gaethje, Rose, and Carla all came in at the title limit. Fighters frequently cut to half a pound or so below it when they're fighting for the belt, so it's not inconceivable that those three did and the scale issue balanced the numbers out to exactly the limit, to which they just shrugged their shoulders.

At the end of the day, Charles had never missed weight at LW before this incident. Weight bullies are either 4-6 inches taller than the divisional average and/or have problems making weight even with the 1 pound allowance, which Oliveira obviously didn't have last week. Also, they'd have no chance in hell at cutting to a lower division in the past. Using the weight bully excuse because the fighter you were rooting for lost after one very questionable half pound miss is kind of pathetic.

Charles has missed weight at 155.

He weighed in at 159lbs against Efrain Escudero.

If losing .5 lbs is life or death for him, he should move up to a more comfortable weight class. Cutting the last .5 lbs wasn’t too much for the challenger.

No, Escudero weighed in at 159, not Charles, so you're wrong about that. Even if it was Charles, we'd be talking about something that happened 12 years ago.

And obviously you didn't read my post. There's a difference between cutting .5 lbs in general and cutting .5 lbs in an hour. Like I said, if the scale showed that he had a half pound to go the night before, it probably wouldn't have been an issue.

Again, pathetic.

you guys need to keep it straight. Charles wasn't the one that weighed over at 159lbs, it was his opponent.

so this fight was the first time he ever missed weight at LW.

also, Kevin Lee missed weight against Oliveira. Lee weighed in at 158.5. So that is 2 opponents that Charles has fought at LW that missed weight.. and he beat both. Still no excuse for missing weight.. or was something actually funny about the scales?
