Chandler is just giving fights away

he's a better fighter than dustin, but he gave that win away it's heart breaking. now everyone is going to think dustin is one of the best lw's to ever fight in the ufc when in reality he's not even top 10.

It's annoying, but it's how these fighters get boosted.
I am on the exact same sentiment as you.

I always cringe whenever I hear people on this site claiming that Dustin is the best boxer in the division. I can't tell if they are watching the same fight as I am because from my point of view, it just looks like Dustin has the better gas tank. Conor, Oliveira and Oliveira are all better, refined strikers than Poirier. Also, Poirier's hands are downright too slow to land anything when his opponents are fresh.

I predicted going into Saturday that people are wrong to think that Poirier's striking is tougher to deal for Chandler than Tony's. It was exactly as I predicted. Chandler had no issue hurting Poirier at will early. I knew this because from Chandler's fight against Gaethje, he is the quicker and more powerful striker when he is fresh. As to why Chandler couldn't put him away. It's not the lack of killer instinct or his low iq. It was his physical limitation. There were moments in the fight where like an adult holding a child's head while the child is swinging into the air, Chandler's height prevented him from landing.

Eh, the two losses to Will Brooks make me seriously question that. He was very good, but still had his weaknesses.
He arguably won the first Will Brooks fight. If he wins the first one the second fight probably would've never happened. Every fighter has weaknesses. In his prime Chandler was well rounded & a tough match up for almost anyone.

As a fan , his UFC run has been very frustrating due to losing winnable fights.

BUT

at the same time, as an MMA fan… the guy is can’t miss MMA. EVERY fight is a banger.

I’ve read some comments. A lot of people are wrong.
They believe Chandler can beat anyone if he just fights ‘smarter’ and lower pace.
They base that opinion on Chandler being aggressive and overwhelm his opponents with aggression and speed.
They forget that Chandler without aggression had no succes on the feet.
Especially when he is pushed back.

I don’t think Chandler can fight different.
This is just his low fight IQ.
He makes the wrong decisions at crucial moments.

he got Poirier hurt against the fence.
This was the moment to keep throwing punches and be aggressive. What did he do? He shoot for a takedown when he got him hurt against the fence.

when he has no succes on the feet in other moments in the fight. He is being very aggressive and keeps throwing punches instead going for the takedown.
He does the opposite of he is supposed to do.

he got Gaethje hurt against the fence. He had no defence and got countered by a wobbling opponent.
In this fight the same thing happened.
He is just too emotional.
Being emotional tempts you to make the wrong decisions.

man elite fighter makes the right decision in the most crucial moments in fights.
Chandler is not elite.
He has an explosive body. He doesn’t have a computer in the mind to operate the body.

this is just his level.

the claim that he just wants to entertain is nonsense. He believes that this is his biggest succes to win.
He doesn’t wrestle much because it burns his cardio.

the cheating in the fight proves that he wanted to win badly.

All he needed to do was do his round 2 gameplan in round 1.

I mean if he's gonna go all action. Do it in the 3rd after he's already worn down his opponent.

But realistically. Chandler had no trouble taking down poirier (poirier has pretty bad TDD anyway)

He should've just done that for 3 rds. It's not like he's boring on the ground either.

Chandler is significantly worse after Round 1, its been that way his whole career pretty much.

"If he didnt go HAM every time..."

What does HAM means?

He is exciting to watch. That’s what made him a millionaire. Stick with the plan. He is short for the division and knows a John fitch style will bring in more wins but less money. Don’t think he is dumb and doesn’t know this.
if he was winning in the UFC, he would be making a lot more money.

Yeah, I thought the same exact thing. Every fight he lost, he could have won if he had any semblance of fight IQ. Oh well.

He's bought into the idea of being an "exciting fighter" to the point that he's losing winnable fights because of it. Maybe it's part of his campaign for a Conor fight. Maybe he's trying to please Dana and secure a post fight career commentator job. Either way he's looking like one of the dumbest fighters on the roster atm.
Maybe that's just what he is. A very exciting fighter who happens to be one of the dumbest.
So far it's given us nothing but thrilling fights, so I'm all for it.
Go Channy!

He is overrated bloated midget thats got found out in the big leagues.

It didn't look like he could win the Gaethje fight. Couldn't take him down and his standup just isn't as good as Justins.
The Porier fight though... wtf. That loss is on him.
Hilarious insight. This guy is funny.

21 of his 31 fights have ended in the first or second round. Chandler has always fought like an animal with its leg in a trap. He's just old and doesn't have insane cardio anymore. Plus as almost all wrestlers do as they get older in MMA he wrestles less because he knows his gas tank has faded somewhat.

It's pretty obvious that this is exactly what he is doing. In an ideal world guys at Chandler's level would have enough money to retire and do whatever they want for the rest of their life. It's sad if you actually think about what guys do to make money to take care of their family. I'm not big on the suck-up type of stuff which is why I'm not a big fan of DC.
Spent most his career in Bellator, they must really suck ripping off all their fighters. What a shitty promotion

I dont know if hes panicking in there, or that hes so married to this idea of being an all-action fighter, but I cant help but feel that hes giving wins away. The Poirier fight looked beyond winnable if he didnt spaz out from the get-go and emptied the gastank in round 1. He could probably have comfortably wrestlefucked Poirier if he commited to a disciplined gameplan.
Same with the Gaethje fight. Had he fought a somewhat smart fight he could have taken an important round and walked away with the victory.
The Oliveira fight is the only one I feel that he fought a good fight but simply got caught.

If he didnt go HAM every time he stepped in the cage he could currently be 4-1 in the UFC instead of 2-3.
His coach says he has made peace with the fact that the berserker mentality will never leave Chandler. It is what it is. To our entertainment and probably his detriment.
