I will never understand why ‘championship weight’ is exact and the rest get a 1 pound grace? Does anyone have knowledge of how and why this practice is in place?

Not sure but anyone who misses weight should be cut after the 2nd time. Or heavily dropped in the rankings.

That's like me showing up to my job hours late. It's part of your job to make weight. I don't understand how these guys miss weight so frequently.

Well I understand why the title bout has to be exact; I don’t get why they generally give the pound allowance though, no. I presume to stop fights falling through, except everyone seems to treat that as the weight to aim for which defeats the point.

A PPV ruined by 3oz.

Only in the UFC.

Does it matter? The rules say 185, so you make 185. It’s not rocket science.

Can't make the weight don't fight in the weight class.

AFAIK, the one pound allowance is in place to avoid (read: reduce) the need for fighters to weigh in naked. It's essentially one pound to account for underwear.
