Why sign a fight without it? There would be no argument about it if you have it in writing.

Migh not be an option for every champ.

Zuffa is the boss. They dictate the terms not the fighters. They may get input from their fighters but that is it. If a champ refuses to defend they can strip them of the belt and tell that champion to get fucked.

Rematch clause? Contracts? Sir I am not sure you've ever seen a UFC fighters contract - let me show you an example.

--Example Contract--
I <Insert Name> am the bitch of the UFC, I swear to be a loyal bitch or else.

Clauses:

  • We can fire you for any reason without notice.
  • Sign over likeness rights and brand recognition forever (post death).
Benefits:

They aren't Mayweathers. They don't have that kind of power.

I agree with it in principle, but it opens the doors to collusion. I'll win this one, you win the next, we have a nice lucrative trilogy...
Plus there are times when the division is very competitive and other times when it is now...
Nothing is perfect.

You'd have to have your contract expire in the middle of decent consecutive title defensez to even be considered for an "instant re-match clauze." DJ's run makes sense.

Good point though. I alwayz wondered if Spider & GSP... had something like that negotiated.

th

Doesn't look like Aldo had one... although he is up next for the interim title so maybe he did.

They don't have any power,

They can be sacked at the whim of the promoter.

"Look at the way this guy fights? Its boring, so what if he's on a 17 fight winning streak ya goofs! he's boring as shit - cut him"

"If you was the champion and lost your title , you have the right to a rematch unless Conor is the current champion"

Impossible to get something like this granted. No one knows how the fight will go. What happens in a scenario it's a one-sided beatdown, completely obvious? No one would care to see a rematch, nor would the champ deserve one. Also dictates too far ahead what the fight match-ups would be like. Even if the champ loses, he gets an immediate rematch? Some times, the show must go on. In the case of Ronda getting promised a rematch after her obvious beatdown, I think it's out of hand. I think in the case of Aldo getting beat by one punch, with us not able to see how the fight would materialize, I think his reign deserved a rematch.

BECAUSE THE FIGHTERS ARE NOT IN CONTROL, THEY ARE EMPLOYED BY THE PROMOTER.

Boxing is about boxers

Ufc is about Ufc
Both are run by promoters that only care about money. Floyd was just able to become his own promotor. The Bob Arum's and Don King's that run boxing don't give a shit about boxers, or the sport in general.

Suggested a similar idea a while ago. As much as I don't like the idea of constant rematches, it removes the inequality and favouritism that granted Weidman, Velasquez, Rousey, and Barão rematches, but not others.

Personally, I'm in favour of no instant rematches, unless it was Machida/Shogun I or Lawler Condit-close.
