fake news. all will be dismissed. Nobody wants it with the Oregon Gangster.

Unless the guys are seriously hurt, doubt it. Aside from actual damages resulting from medical costs, doubt there's much else, unless Chael really hurt those guys.
Nah. I once sat on a jury where a 18 year old reared ended a 65 year old and totalled the car but the old man was physically fine. Dings and scratches but by the time the trial date came he was 100% fine physically. We awarded for the plantiff. The car was like 14K and his medical bills were less than 5K but we awarded him 275K in psychology damage because the old man said he was afraid to drive anymore because of the accident. What fucked the 18 year old was that his insurance covered only up to 200K in case of a lawsuit and the kid had to come up with that last 94K himself.

What bunch of pussies to even press charges. Goes to show they were looking for trouble.

Chael is not a night life party guy at all. This dude shows up to events and does his job and the time around it he spends with his family. He isn't out boozing it up with other fighters or hitting up after parties after every event. His family travels with him quite often and he keeps them out of the public eye.

In the docs, officials accuse Sonnen of roughing up six people -- including one woman -- during some sort of altercation at a Vegas hotel on Dec. 18.

Officials say in the docs Sonnen choked a man, punched and/or struck a woman, and punched and/or kneed others in the head and face during the incident.

"Psychology damage" I assume you mean pain and suffering damages or general damages, are hard to get in lawsuits. The standard usually requires a reasonable element to it (obviously depending on the state), they are also rather hard to prove.

I presume there's a lot more information to this, but 275K for a fear of driving wouldn't be reasonable at all to me. You can try to assign a monetary value to this old man driving, and how often he drives, and the cost of each drive, with an assumption that the fear is less in value than an actual ability to drive.

If that was actually the end result, the attorney would be an idiot for not appealing it on the grounds of the damages being unreasonable. I'd push for a directed verdict from the trial judge to overturn the jury's finding on damages.

trumped up charges they ain't got a case.

Damn, you always find a way to put up a poll for anything, don't you?
This might be the least necessary/interesting poll I've seen on Sherdog thus far. And that's saying a lot. It's just . . . not an interesting question on any level to any demographic.

I was wondering when this was going to happen with strangulation statutes. They actually got created in a lot of states (sometimes as an enhancement charge for regular assault/battery) originally as a way of throwing the book at domestic violence offenders, but theoretically they can be applied to anyone under any circumstance. I figured it was only a matter of time before a BJJ or MMA guy got hit with them for choking some guy in a street fight. In some jurisdictions, strangulation upgrades what would otherwise be misdemeanor assault/battery (i.e. you lost your temper, got involved in a scuffle no big deal) into an aggravated felony case.

It's my way of suggesting the "trouble" chael is in, isn't with criminal court, it's with Disney and ESPN. Dana already stood up for Rogan, he willing to do it again for Chael?

This actually might get interesting because Chael is already a felon because of that real estate fraud that he was involved with back in the day.

Charges in these suits usually start big and get reduced or thrown out. You can put money that he's not leaving court with 10 charges plus a felony.

Having a prior felony is grounds for a much bigger sentence for the same infraction, according to an officer in California.

This is bs. this is the case where that douchebag came up to Chael and his missus and starting abusing his missus. Strangulation charge could literally be Chael putting him a RNC. Honestly, law and order in the states right now is a joke. #FreeChael

In a hotel casino, there is 100% surveillance video of this.

Hard to believe the prosecutor took the time to re-file the charges after viewing the video footage of what went down if Sonnen doesn't have some fault here.
