Media Chad Mendes is still under UFC contract. Got permission to box at knucklemania by the UFC

The fact that a guy who has been fighting under this promotion for what feels like an eternity can’t afford those things tells you all you need to know.

Stop kissing his ass. You look like a certified dumb fuck.
His brother died in 2014 if I'm correct and he had 3 fights in the UFC at that time. He was in the promotion for a year and probably didn't make much back then. I'm sure he could afford those things now that he's a UFC veteran.

you

should ask yourself why would an ufc fighter be unable to pay for his brother's fucking funeral in the first place.
It should be like the NFL, you sign its a wrap you made it in life and you're rich, end of story.
Over here, a lot of the people who make it in the top sport and earn stupid money even with taxes end up totally ruined within years of retirement. They earn so much during their career that they have a whole lot of parasites surrounding them 24/24 sucking their money, have zero money management skills, and little to no skillset to sell afterwards.

A lot also get depression from the brutal changes that happen at the end of their career. And I'm talking about guys that are in that sport since they're five and would have had a lot of time to learn how to be a functioning adult.

In the end, I can imagine that fighters that often begin MMA at 20+, even if they got filthy rich, could really easily waste all that money in a few years

it's also the fact that not everyone in the NFL is making millions of dollars. people will quote the league minimum but there's a lot of players who won't even make that because they're signed to the practice squad.

No it shouldn't lol. And who says he couldn't? Serious question. Did he say that?

Chad was a company man and played a very, very integral roll in McGregor mania. UFC 189 was the event that transformed UFC in a multi-multi billion dollar cash cow, and it happened off of Chad's name. Crazy to think that this will only be his fourth time fighting since that fateful night.

I wish that MMA fighters that started their lives in Wrestling/Judo/Sambo/Submission Wrestling/Folk Wrestling/Catch Wrestling/Freestyle Wrestling/Greco-Roman Wrestling/Brasilian Jiu-jitsu would stop having Boxing fights.

So he can rematch Frankie, Conor, and Volk in his last 3 fights

What is a "reining" champ? Someone who's really good at riding horses?
I wonder if Dana would let him do medieval-style horse and lance dueling

Your call.

I'd stick with a better known, more stable business.

Not that either of us will ever have the option.
Endeavour Stock is $30.79. Maybe we could go halvsies on a share?
As for NFL ownership this sums it up:

Marketability. I know GSP did big numbers but he was widely considered to be a boring wrestler, why would anyone care to see him box? and in reality Francis is still a fresh face.
Because the offers were made. He just needed the UFC to let him do it. If nobody paid to see it, that's on the promoters. They can take the poss.

You never see practice squadders living it up, though. Even they know they'll need to get another job fairly quickly.

maybe he meant that you misspelled reigning ... you edited and fixed the spelling after his post

grammar pwn so edgy and cool..I bet he feels like a real badass.

What I'm getting out of this is that Mendes' other business aren't exactly thriving, so he actually needs the money and is begging the UFC to let him fight there again in the most passive-aggressive way possible because that's how millennial men roll.

Also, LOL@him thinking age 34 is any pro athlete's "prime" besides a handful of NFL QBs.

Remember when Condit was gonna make serious bank with his coffee shop? You don't just start a business and become an instant millionaire. That's never been how it worked and definitely not these days when owning a small business is borderline illegal.

I would assume his contract is over 5 years old since they were worried enough to put that clause in their later contract I severely doubt they would have fought trying to keep someone like Mendes under contract.

UFC fighters wouldn't be paid like NFL players even if they were paid 100% of the revenue. And signing with the NFL doesn't automatically make you rich, the minimum is $660K and the contract is not guaranteed so they can cut you at any time just like the UFC.

“should”

What a great word. Especially when the unspoken bookends to the word are “people other than me SHOULD use their time and resources to do __________.”

i'm pretty sure the UFC getting a huge slice from Conor's pie had a lot to do with them allowing it.
They could get a huge slice off every single big boxing cross over fight, yet Dana turns it down right when it's mentioned and clearly says there will be no UFC fighters boxing.

Mendes has some damn good underrated MMA boxing.

His feints are Tyson-esque.

so as greedy as the UFC is, you think they're just leaving money on the table to spite their own fighters? doesn't make any sense. the only crossover fight that's even mentioned is Ngannou vs Fury and Ngannou doesn't seem like he's in the sharing mood with the UFC and the UFC doesn't think the money it will draw is worth getting their HW champion smoked.

they want the majority share of hundreds of millions, not the majority share of $20 million and their HW champ gets clowned in front of the world.
