Media CFO of Endeavor speaks on pay percentage says UFC should be compared to individual sports

Yeah it should be compared to boxing lol
/Thread.

PS: I do agree it has very little to do with team sports, its not a league, even if they are limited to a certain number of opponents within the promotion, #1 guy wont fight #20 no matter what like in a league, lost 10 fights in a row, you are probably cut unless you are Sam Alvey, but seriously tho, a guy that loses 10 in a row retires and fears for his health, a team that loses 10 in a row fires the coach, gets a new one and wins some games, they go back the next season like nothing happened, team sports have nothing to do with combat sports.

Then let's compare promotion-to-promotion.

Who's the biggest promoter/promotion in boxing, and what are their pay scales, top to bottom, how many boxers do they contract, and what is their annual pay roll?

That would be a fair comparison, and you could start to critique the UFC model as a hinderance if it turned out the top boxing promoter was easily and routinely out paying the UFC fighter-for-fighter.

yup. I want my cage fighters hungry. makes for more action. If you care about fighter pay go watch ballet.

There are laws in place preventing the boxing equivalent of the UFC to exist. That's the problem lol. I'm critiquing the UFC model. In a big way.

He wants to compare to F1 where the top drivers sign similar length of time deals but make now Verstappen makes a record $53 million per year?

Fair play - as we've seen the boxing model can cause the UFC model all kinds of problems.

You've literally got the top paid, top performing UFC-contracted athletes begging to take part in boxing exhibitions - that tells you all you need to know about the UFC being unable to pay top dollar for their superstars.

However, I think that argument could potentially fall apart the lower down the rankings you go.

UFC puts a lot of food on a lot of tables, maybe not enough, but it's still a lot of guys getting good coverage in front of a good-sized, consistent audience base.

Both models have their ups and downs, but I think most people on this forum are going to prefer the fact the UFC model makes matchmaking at the top level easier than in boxing.

Fact is, fighters get a discount on their total compensation because the UFC spends a significant share of its revenue on advertising & promotion.

A low level UFC fighter gets a lot more spotlight time than a low level boxer

Francis Ngannou would have been KOed by club fighters had he gone into boxing for a career.

Meanwhile, the UFC managed to sell him as a weaponized Ford Escort.

Hes right,

I think fighters should get paid more but comparing UFC to NBA and other ball sports is beyond stupid. Even a direct comparison with Boxing isn't good either.

Anybody thinking a 50% cut with fighters is even possible doesnt understand anything about running a business or the economics of where UFC currently is. They have high expenses and are still aggressively expanding, they also front alot of the costs for events, medical, hotels, plus keep adding things like PI's

Did he forget boxing??...

Lol

Also I don't see the PGA stopping guys from making money from sponsors ...

Just saying
you don't see Condom Depot on Tiger's ass at the Masters, either.

PGA has a decent sponsor policy, regulates exactly what can be on their clothing and gear, its size, how many logos they can have, and excludes certain products and product makers. It's nothing like the relative free for all UFC used to allow.

I wouldn't mind seeing UFC do something similar, but don't blame them at all for cracking down on what it used to be.

In those other individual sports... they get to advertise their own sponsors when they compete.

I agree that it should be compared to other individual sports, but they are going to make whatever self-serving arguments they can.

When the UFC first made the Reebok deal, Dana White said that athletes can't have their own sponsors in the NBA. So, which is it? Should the UFC be compared to individual sports or team sports?
