Is Australia more similar culturally to Britain than America is to Britain? I realize I sound (am) ignorant, but I'm taking the risk.

If yes, is that because many Australians were originally British, while Americans emigrated from a wider array of places?

That's a tough one. Australia is more cosmipolitan in some respects than the US. For example, 30% of our current population was not born here. This is an incredible statistic when you take into account that we have no land borders.

Since the end of WWII, Australia has experienced an extended period of mass immigration. Originally from European countries, and now from Asian countries like India.

If you just talk about people of European ancestry, Australians are more like Brits than Americans are. Our vernacular is more alike, as is our diet and drinking customs.
