Technically they did. A group re-deciphered them and said that the number was actually 616.

I read through the whole thread because I find this stuff interesting on multiple levels.

As far as Bible lore goes humans aren't responsible for releasing Abaddon/Apollyon from the Abyss. An angel with a key to the Pit/Prison/Abyss is given that duty. I don't believe the entity in the Pit is supposed to be Satan himself. There is no mention of Satan being locked away until after the return of Christ. The Angel in the Pit and his minions would in my opinion be referring to the angels that sinned before the flood and were locked away in the Abyss by Michael the Archangel until the time of the end when they are released for a short time to do their thing and then are judged and destroyed.
